Ok I feel like i am 16 again (which wasn't all too long ago but Alas). As most of you know (of those that know me) I am a toy Junkie.... I gotta have material objects to fullfill my life and make my mind happy... Well my latest object of Want was a summer toy (car) to tinker on and play w/. I have been looking for a Firebird/Camaro, or Cheap Corvette for a while now, My father-in-law sparked this when he, out of the blue i might add, purchased a 1987 Corvette. Well He let me drive it... MISTAKE NUMBER 1... I have never in my 28 years of existance EVER driven a "sports" car... unless you classify a sunfire a sports car... I THOUGHT NOT! Well one of my favorate rides has always been a 1977 Firebird T/A.. well there is no way that my wife, being pregant and all, will allow me to drop $4-8K on a classic car like that... so i was on the prowl for a newer cheaper one to tinker on... A neighbor has been trying to sell his 1983 firebird for quite sometime now... and it was extemely overpriced, at least to me at the time. Well after 1 year of trying to sell it he lowered the price... to MY BUDGET! That was mistake number 2.... cause now i had to find a way to BEG AND PLEAD w/ the wife to drop the cash on a "toy", which in her mind was not needed AT ALL! Well after many days of disscussion and a Federal Income Tax refund i finnally got the wife to re-consider my stance... So Yesturday i picked her up.. a 1983 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am Ricarro. Lets just say i was lovin every minute of it.. now i have a couple little house cleaning jobs to do on it, i.e. fix sagging doors, tune up, clean interior, etc. But nothing major. It only has 84,000 miles on the o.d. and runs decent and shifts good. I will get some pics up as soon as i get the chance.. Who knows, maybe the wife will drive it down for the homecoming (if it can make it). JUST HAPPY AS HECK!! |

i never undersand why some guys have to go to their wives for money like if she was their mom, dont you have you own saving account and your own money. you do have a job! what if she leaves you for another guy, will run to her to see how much money she will give you to settle too. you must ride a yamaha or honda, you can't be a BUELL guy |

I know several couples who do the yours/mine/joint(household) deal with accounts. saves on the small arguments. |

buellidan, so what do you do when you want to give your wife a present, do you call her to make sure there is enough money for you to take out. when you go to the strip club with the guys do you call your wife and make sure she made a deposit so you don't averdrawl. just curious. |

Ya'll are funny! Enjoy your new (to you) toy Blackbelt. I always wanted a black 76 Trans Am. That's the 6.6 right? Not too much into cars anymore though. Congrats, and post a pic or two when you get the chance. And for the rest of ya'll, We're all different, and married to different women, therefore we live differently. What works for myself and Ann wouldn't work for ya'll, and I know the way ya'll are handling things wouldn't work for us. |

Buell2001, If I need money I just go to the ATM and withdraw it. We have enough in our savings that it hasn't been an issue if I want to take out a couple hundred whenever I want to. Luckily we are able to do that. I understand that others are not in as good. But my queation then becaomes for those who have seperate accounts. Once you have children whose account pays for their needs? |

You could get a 6.6 in a 76 Trans Am. But that might be the Pontiac 400 or an Oldsmobile 403. The Pontiac was a MUCH better motor. The engine you really wanted was the 455 Pontiac!!! |

To be totally honest, back then all I wanted was the Firebird on the hood! I was only 13 in 1976. (Message edited by Glitch on March 09, 2005) |

well i think think you should have accounts, one as a joint to pay the bills and one for you, so you spend your money as you please. now if your woman makes more money then you, i could see why you could push for a joint account only, lol |

When we lived in Japan, my parents had a Toyota Corrolla Station wagon with a big firebird on the hood and a trucker's air horn under the hood. Funny little car. CONGRATS ON THE FIREBIRD! How many gallons to the mile? |

I drove a 2004 Z06 Corvette this weekend. It was fun, but I think it lacks the style of old muscle cars. The new mustang is the closest they've come to making a "retro" looking car. Everything else looks like a good car that got melted. I like old, non-aerodynamic, classic cars. If the car manufacturers would make a car that looked identical to my chevelle, but with all new suspension, fuel inj, etc, I would be the first in line to buy one. |

Blackbelt, congrats on the poncho, i hope it works out great for you. I have a 1968 firebird 350 coupe that i bought when i was 16. i drove it a lot in high school, but now that i work construction(drive my truck), and with gas prices how they are, i have driven it maybe 50 miles in 3 years. its a pretty nice car, CA body, mostly stock. not special, just fairly clean. its a numbers car with the original receipt of sale from a dealer in santa ana CA. anyway, the car costs me 600 bucks a year to store, and i feel bad about not driving it, and it needs some $ and TLC thrown at it, so lately i have been thinking about selling it. the money would be nice, but i think i would live to regret it. any thoughts? thanks, Ken |

Clown - that's what I want to do eventually. When I was enlisted I had a 1969 Mustang Mach I with a 428 and a 4-speed toploader. It was stolen right before I went to West Point, but it always was and always will be my dream car. I want to buy another 69 fastback and build up the engine, put a good suspension and brakes into it, and make the interior comfortable. I love the way the older cars look - they looked different from each other. Nowadays all cars look like bubbles rolling down the road. You can't tell a vette from a lexus from a nissan anymore... So maybe two more tours to Iraq and I will be able to afford it. I am heading back there again in a couple of months, (hopefully for only 12 months this time) and the money I save during that trip will go towards a new motorcycle. But the next time I go, (probably about 8-10 months after I get back from this tour) I will save up for a classic car. That's the only good thing about being gone for so long... You save a lot of money. Sean |

Well i will get some pics as soon as i get my POS camera to work.... I will have to get the car and bike in position for a good pic.... lol Glitch in 1982 they re-designed the car, and it has the 305 up until i belive 94 when they put the LS-1 in there. Mine has the 305 Crossfire... Gets around 16-18 MPG's, but when i am done in a couple years it will prolly get 8-10... i may do a manual conversion.. cause it has an Auto.. Spidy looked at it yesturday.. and he was bummed that it was an Auto... but cheap toy cars are hard to find let alone exactally what you want... I told spidy that all i need now is a Wife beater T-shirt, Ray Ban Sunglasses, Mullet, and Journey Blastin on the TAPE DECK!!!! AWE YEAH!!! and i can be RETRO!. oh and by the way I WASN'T EVEN BORN IN 76....i was concieved in 76 if that helps.. ok all at once.. EEEEWWW (Message edited by blackbelt on March 10, 2005) |
