Tire tests show nothing. Each rider could have been on a different compound just to see how they wear. |

I'm just commenting that it's a shame he won't be on a Buell for the 200, the guy is a talent and I hope he gets a podium finish in the 200, just too bad it won't be on a Buell. |

I don't think his team had a Buell ready for him in time for daytona abd it is much too big of an event to pass up for Barnes. But you are right, a shame he didn't have a competetive Buell ready for this. |

Doesnt Barnes use Pirelli and the factory Honda guys use Dunlop ? That could explain some the difference, well that and Barnes is a totally underated racer. |

Any word on how many riders will actually be on Buells for the 200 ? Will Mike C. be there ? Mike C. and Mike B. were the only 2 competitive riders on Buells last year in FX. With one on a Yami it doesn't look very good for any kind of showing for Buell at Daytona this year. |

I don't think Walt is racing FX.He's running Pro Thunder.Kosko won't be there, thats Barnes last years sponsor.Kosko is no longer Sponsoring that bike but it will still be ridden by Barnes just not with their name on it and at Daytona. So it will be the Hal's bike (Mike Cicotto),Hobans (Jeff Johnson) and Shawn Higbee.Higbee is a huge force to to reckon with. |

You know what's toughest? Deciding! These are all such good folks! Higbee was out before the last Love Ride and we all took a putt up to Newcomb's Ranch for lunch and BS. He said he was trying to put an FX team together but it seemed like such an uphill battle at that time (a full 1-yr FX effort can run half million$)... ...now it looks like he's a contender WOW That's the problem for me - knowing the effort and passion these folks are putting into their efforts - how can I get behind just one team? (*answer: I can't) |

Hal's bike will not be running, so it will be Hoban's and Shawn. BTW, Shawn fell WAY short of the money necessary for a full year effort so far, but is going to try anyhow. Total privateer effort on the cheap, so although there won't be 6 or 8 Buells there, there will be one guy with the heart of six... |

So why isn't Hal's bike running? I know both Mike C, and Dan Bilanski both crashed during tire testing(oil line problem on Mike C's bike IIRC), but last I heard they WERE getting the bikes together before Daytona. |

H-D should be ashamed. The biggest FX race of the season and they won't drop some coin to help field a grid full of American bikes with talented riders and struggling teams. What a joke. Good luck Shawn and Hoban Bros. we'll be cheering for you. |

HD is not interested in roadracing at all. Drag racing seems to have caught their attention and they do have two fully backed factory teams. Dirt track is a one team affair and roadracing gets zip. No idea what the "business" rationale is behind it but HD is a company that is in business to make money not a racing team that builds motorcycles to support itself. |

Kenb - I hear you BUT if you look at where the interest seems to lie in sales - and aftermarket stuff - mostly it's engine power increases and most of the focus I read and hear at the Dealer's is all about straight line speed. Folks are more willing to spend money on a spec sheet than on riding skills. That plays to the street-only Drag-types of weekend riders (NOT meaning legit drag or LSR racers!). When was the last time any of us really heard as much talk devoted to suspension setup/handling as much as exhaust sound or engine HP? Yeah, there are some serious discussions here but I'd bet that the money spent on engine mods v. suspension/tires/handling is about 5:1 or more. I think it's a waste of money myself to get more power outta these bikes when we're not riding them very well in the first place. Point of reference: My XB racebike makes a good 20HP more than my SV racebike but I'm barely a half second faster per lap at Willow. It aint just HP. |

I think Harley is being extremely stupid not to put big money into winning Daytona. I'm afraid it's a sign that Harley is about ready to give up on Buell because their sales are a drop in the bucket compared to how many Sportsters go out the door everyday.I hope I'm wrong, but Buell needs something to really give them some credibility in the sport bike world. It's really the only way sales are going to come up to Harley's expectations. |

I think its a huge mistake & screwup on HD's part not to fund Hal's & get them to Daytona. |

Why does Buell need something to give them credibility in the sportbike world anymore than the Biker Blend coffee sold in HD gift shops needs credibility with the Starschmucks crowd? If Buell is a separate profit center and can stand on their own hind legs then they're probably gonna be left alone. Sure, none of us on Badweb know what's around the corner at Buell so we freely speculate - but I wonder how well Buell would really do with another entry in a mob of competing sportbikes - twins, 4's, 5's, 6's, straight or V |
