Most of you probably realize I am selling some shirts on e-bay. I set it up as a fixed price auction meaning if the price is right you can just buy it now with no bidding against one another. Sounds easy right? What's weird is that you wouldn't believe how many people are watching these listings. It's not like they can come in at the last minute and snipe it. Why would you watch something if you can just buy it right now? I'm confused

Competing sellers can see if you got your price, and can see the name of your customer if so.

Potential buyers can "mark" it while they go ask their mother (or wife) for permission.

Probably the ask permission from the wife is the most likely scenario.

I actually have done the first quite a few times. If they don't get a decent end price I don't waste my time. Without a watch or bid I can't see the final price.

I always have something in my watch folder, sometimes it's just to see how well a friend is doing in selling stuff, sometimes it's to keep a link open to a seller to watch if they put something new up when they had something I was also interested in.

Did ebay add a new feature that allows you to see who's watching your auctions? If so you can track the watchers and see if they are bidding on something else or something similar.

No, I can only see how many watchers there are not specificallly who is watching. That would be a nightmare. I can just see sellers writing to watchers offering to sell them soemthing all the time.

That happens now when you bid early on something, someone sometimes comes along and offers you something similar as soon as you're outbid even though the auction is still going. I've had it happen a couple of times now so I usually just put the item into my watch folder and don't bid until the final day or final few hours. I haven't done a buy-it-now option since I let my PayPal account sort of die and don't remember the password to reactivate it or fully kill it off. Besides, the account/card it was attached/linked to is now shredder fodder anyway.

I abuse the Watch List, as I'm sure many do.

I throw stuff in there for whatever reason, whether I plan to bid, or just to see what it goes for.

You're not abusing it, thats what it's there for.

I use "watch item" for anything that interests me.

Great tool, I like it.
