Hi All,

I have a question I hope you all can help me with. I have been thinking about buying an M2 for a while. I just found a 2000 M2 with 4400 miles for $3999. Does that sound like a reasonable price?

Thanks - Jim

Yes. Offer less, but that seems to be a reasonable price...

Well, a lot depends on the condition and miles on the bike. For a used 2k, that sounds like a premium price, considering the poor resale value Buells have (for now). If the bike is in great shape with low mileage and has the updated reservoir shock in place of the SRP shock, you still might have a little haggling room.

I'm assuming there was a shock recall?

Thanks - Jim

sounds reasonable to me, what kinda shape is it in? i imagine like new! my bike is a 99 and i feel it's worth more than 4k, i'm not sure what the blue book is on it but with only 4400 miles it probably has that new bike smell still lol. anyway i bought 99m2 for $6200 in 2001 and it had almost twice the mileage $3999 sounds like a good deal to me, the motor is probably worth almost three grand alone imo.

It's reasonable if it is in good shape, especially if it has goodies (upgraded front exhaust mount, supertrapp IDS exhaust, upgraded shifter linkage, forcewinder, etc). I sold my 2000 M2 (but with a boatload of miles on it) in trade in to a dealer for $3000, they sold it on ebay for $3100 after putting in a lot of time and work.

That being said, you could probably score an XB9S for $5000 if you are patient till they appear and ready to move fast once they show up. That's only $1000 more for a *lot* of extra features.

Tuber owners stop reading here. I mean it....

I would venture to guess that an XB9 with 15k miles of reasonable use on it will have a longer life span with less trouble then a tuber that is new off the showroom floor would have.

Tuber readers can start again...

That being said, I loved my Cyclone, and I wish I had an S1. If Buell had not reached into my wallet by way of my heart with the XB9SX, I would still be happily riding (and repairing) the thing today.

So get the one that stirs your heart.

I bought my 99M2 this past july for 2800.00 with only 7K on it, but I think I might have gotten a little better deal than most. All in all I would have paid twice that if that's what it took.

As of yesterday's glorious ride, the total is now up to 94,600+. Here's a shot of the odometer as of the last rear tire install on my S2.
Finally getting acclimated to the bike...

"I'm assuming there was a shock recall?"

No recall, just a really lousy shock that was so bad Buell goodwilled an updated shock if your bike was out of warranty and the shock went bad. A local (no longer Buell) dealer still found a way to screw me out of $100 on that one.

Not sure what the status of the policy is now.

There *will* be a tuber back in my garage someday, I promise. (*ducking* but it will probably be an S1 instead of an M2 *ducking*).

Let me say it again, I *LOVED* my cyclone and miss it all the time. Mine was worse then many, but I just fixed it and rode on. It never left me stranded, never cost me a lot to repair, and aside from one 4 evening tranny rebuild, was never down for more then a day or so. It was a pleasure to work on, and simple to repair.

It was *well* worth all the grief it gave me, no doubt, no question, if I could go back and time and do it again I would do it earlier, longer, and more often.

It was the most cost effective motorcycle I have ever owned, I put like 20k miles on the thing, and it depreciated about $2000.

It was a part in making me the man I am today. There is an infectious passion and vision that are a part of riding and maintaining a tuber.

To say that I am even more pleased with the XB9SX should not take anything away from the Tubers. They will always have a place in my heart, and I hope will someday have a place back in my garage.

And in a nutshell, any tube frame buell, so long as it is still running, is a HELL of a deal in the $3000 range.

The M2 is still the best motorcycle ever made, and I can prove it. And the XB9SX is even better, and I can prove that too! ; )

Damn Reep, I feel almost (almost!) guilty for having 24,000 trouble free miles on my 2k m2.

Course, the first 1000 miles were pure hell...
