Waldo: I assume you mean items #16 and #17 on this page:

If that is a correct assumption, then I'd call it about a three-beer job. Follow the instructions in the service manual. Scraping the crusty old gaskets off is probably the worst of it. You'll have to shorten an Allen wrench to get to the bolts that hold the upper covers on. Use high quality gaskets (like Cometic or James) when you put it back together.

I have a 99 X-1.I do have one more question on my fuel tank. When I take the tank off.Do I just pull the hose of for the gas line or will it start leaking and is that under pressure since it is fuel injected.

It is (usually) under pressure, ~50 psi. Release the pressure by pressing in on the Schreader (sp?) valve (like tire valve), making sure it doesn't spray on you. Then pull the hose.

Waldo,
The new style metal gasket from HD also works well.
No leaks since I started using them.
If someone offers you the paper variety politely refuse.
They are junk and WILL leak.

Waldo,

Here's a couple of links regarding the umbrella valves.

I posted these a while back.

Done this twice on my bike. Worked well the first time, but still had a bit of an oil leak. Put a product called Copper coat on the metal gasket the second time and havent had a problem since. Took me bout 2 hours round trip but YMMV.
