On the X1 there seemed to be two different finishes on the aluminum rear subframe, the semi polished or matte aluminum and a black paint or powdercoat

was there different years or different colors that each was available?

The matte finish coating was later years. There were bubbling - outgassing - issues with the semi polished coating, necessitating the change.

Funny thing was when I went to get Erik's OK on the matte finish, he stated "That's what I wanted originally!"

Loctite SF790 Will obliterate the coating in about 90 seconds. It will bubble and wipe off with a paper towels. REAL stripper in a can. Expect the same on the swing arm.

Ran the finish until last year. It held up very good but now its getting polished.
