Is it possible to remove S2-T primary cover w/isolator plate still attached? i don't recall having this issue on this bike before. I've got the complete race exhaust and i can't use the primary drain plug as it bumps up against the muffler...so... i removed the bolts in the primary cover, took out the clutch ramp, and proceeded to back off the primary chain tensioner screw several turns. As i was trying to pull the primary cover free, the lower right of the cover was hitting the isolator plate. i was thinking about Dremeling the isolator plate for clearance. So, can i remove the primary cover w/o carving on the isolator plate for clearance? TIA. | ||

What race exhaust? Buell didn't make one for the S2...unless you're using one for a 96-98 S1, in which case fitment may be a little...different. I had a race can attached (with a 2" to 2.5" adaptor) to my old S2 with its stock header for a while, and the dimple in the muffler cleared the drain plug just fine. All race cans should have a dimple for the drain; does yours not line up? Or not have one? | ||

Jerry Cerwinski, who worked for Erik Buell, built this S2-T for himself. Buell race exhaust and muffler (with dimple) but i can't inspect for "bits" if i can't get the primary cover off. Maybe i just need to turn the chain adjust out more for clearance. Thanks for the reply Rat. | ||

Could always pull the clutch cover off and stick a magnet on a stick down there, to see if it pulls anything out. Most of the bits in there are magnetic (primary teeth, chain bits), and if the fluid is all full of crap you know the clutches are burnt. I'll take a look at mine tonight. I want to say the cover will come off without pulling the sideplates; I had mine off my old '95 multiple times and don't recall ever having to remove the plate. I'll look closer at the plates though, I had the last set of Am Sport Bike updated plates for late-model sidestand on that bike, and can't remember if the leading edge was the same contour or not. I'll compare when I get home... | ||

It should come out. Remove the shifter of course...the only thing in question would be if your isolators are worn and the engine has shifted to one side some, or is pushed up into the frame because they're worn...my bike has about half an inch for the primary cover to move outwards before it hits the plate, and the top edge of the cover is about 1/4" below the bottom of the frame tube. | ||

Yes, you need to remove the left isolator mount on an S2 to remove the primary cover! Also, 96 Pro series Exhaust (complete) fits an S2… Header - 65396-96Y Muffler - 65398-96Y The only part from the compete kit that couldn’t be utilized on an S2 was the race module. Kit # 82000-96Y Module # 32680-96Y | ||

Thanks Rat and Rickie: i really appreciate you guys going out of your way to help this Bueller that wants to be riding until i'm one hundred and twenty years old  You guys are the bomb  Case closed. Will try with primary chain loosey loose and report back if i can remember. |
