So, I just bought a beautiful custom 1998 S1 White Lightning. I am running into an issue with respect to registering in California. I need the federal emission sticker that comes on all Buells. Anyone have a source? TÍA!! | ||

What usually works for me is that I upload them on abload.de, copy the link and then paste that link here between the [.img] [./img] tags (without the .'s) Abload.de is German, but easy enough to figure out. You need the left option on the home page (bilder von der festplatte hinzufugen). | ||

Is the one from eBay? If it’s got under 7500 miles on it, you won’t be able to register it in California, it’s still considered and “new” vehicle… | ||

Those stickers are all required as part of the certification process and somewhere there is a file that details each and every sticker on the bike. In addition, all that emissions stuff is filed with NHTSA . . . I think that's the agency. Brankin (1313) or Roger (Screamer) may know better. I'd also look in the service manual and see if there is a section that shows all the stickers on the bike. | ||

The EPA and CARB oversee emissions compliance in the U.S. and it’s territories - including label content, dimensions, placement - etc. | ||

Erwin, Do you still need the emission sticker? If so I can look for the correct year for your bike at my NOS parts guy tomorrow. I’m heading out to his shop tomorrow to pick up rear iso mounts and the correct emission sticker for my 91 RSS Westwind. The last time I was out there I mistakenly grabbed the emission sticker for a 93 model. Since I’ll be there anyway it’s no bother. | ||

Screamer should get the credit for retaining this info. If I didn't know any better, I'd swear that Jim Cmelak might have some involvement as well, if not Court himself. I should get chastised for it taking me so long to make it available. There's a story there, but I'm sure it won't add any value...  | ||

It should be noted that the above is for a California bike. A 49 state bike would be exactly the same EXCEPT all of the content below SEE OWNER'S MANUAL is NOT on the 49 state label. But, pictures speak LOUDER than words, so:  | ||

Hahahaha . . . . and to think they called us "hoarders". . . . In a bit of bad news . . . . I opened a couple cases of Buell shirts and the mice in the barn had raided them. Good news is that all the posters are safe and there were a couple hundred of the rare shirts that were all sealed in bags. | ||

The decal file was headed to the dumpster. An H-D P&A employee intervened by calling me and asking if I thought it should be saved. My response - “Hold on to it - I’m on my way”. (Message edited by screamer on April 05, 2022) | ||

Steve S has a couple books that had EVERY decal ever put on a Buell in order of years they were used starting in 1987. I haven't spoken to him in years . . . hopefully it survived. | ||

Argh. I still need the decals, so I’m hoping somebody has a source for them. California kicked back my registration, claiming they want to see the decals. I’ve tried advising them at the bike was previously registered in California at some point, but they still insist. Any recommendation as to how to source them or make reproductions? | ||

Sourced some stickers, thanks to this forum. And lo and behold, they are original Buell emission stickers. In any event, can someone post a picture of where it belongs? Lol. I’m not sure where to put it. Thanks! |
