I looked at the Mikuni site and they list the model needed for the S1 as a 42-11 kit. I have a carbon fiber air cleaner from american sport bike that bolts up to the stock CV40 carb. If I install the Mikuni will I be able to keep my current air cleaner? If so will I need to order an adaptor or will the carb kit come with it? Thanks in advance for the help. Hodakaguy

Tom,
If you have the Mikuni Easy Kit, you need nothing. It comes with the adapter that converts the mouth of the Mik to the CV bolt pattern, and it accepts stock cables. The older kits used different cables, the newer ones use stock. Sometimes the cables are a little on the loose side. I machined a little ferrule for mine years ago to take out the slack, but many seem to work just fine with just a little bit of adjusting at the throttle end.

Once fitted in the air cleaner can't tell the difference between the CV or the Mik. The air cleaner attaches directly to the retaining bracket in both cases, not the actual carb.

See here:

I've always thought that the Mikuni carb was the best single mod I made to my S1W...it is so snappy compared to the stock CV.

Al

snappy, but not of any HP gain by itself, and the lesser coast-to-coast carb when measured against the keihin cv, but the mik is still my favourite carb.

I just did this. What the guys said is what it is...the 42-11 kit is complete. The only thing I found lacking for the race air cleaner was one carb casket (only came with two; needed three). A little slack in the cables as previously mentioned, and had to cut the tie wraps holding the throttle cables to the right side of the frame (M2) as the cables' entrance angle is different. Thats it. Oh, yeah, you've got to re-engineer the position of your VOES as well. I've got pix of what I did with mine if you need 'em.

Sorry to change subject, but have you seen the Keinin FCR41 its a flat slide, more expencive and a bit trickier to tune, but a very good carb.

I had FCR 41s on my old Duc 900 Monster. I would think you might want a bit more as I was running two 41s on a 900cc engine (though it would rev a bit higher than the Buell mill). Then again, they're great mixers. They're a little tricky to tune but once they're right, they're excellent.

X1tx, runing one FCR41 on a buell gives same result as runing two on a ducati , as your not getting double the air, they are indervidual mounted so each cylinder still only gets one carb, buell stock manifold is shared so each cylinder gets its turn.
also don't think the size means thats the air flow, that 41 will out flow a HSR42.
