The top photo is an earlier S2 fiberglass pan that has a modified “tang slot”. The one in the bottom photo iis the later nylon/plastic with the additional retention clip in the center of the pan.

If the seat fits properly (no excessive gap at the tank cover or at the tail and sides) I’d use it.
If the retention tang has excessive play in the slot, a frequently used solution is to pop rivet a thin metal plate over the slot and then cut a new, more precise slot in the plate.

Thanks for the info Screamer. Of the 7 S2s I've had, none of them had the later style pan lol.
