So I never owned an S2 before, always had/have 99'-02' S3T's, X1's, and a M2. I just love the lines of the S2 so when I saw one locally that needed a lot of loving I had to save it. After going through her, going thru the electrics, putting a new set of skins on and a better kick stand I finally was able to get her out for a nice long ride. Is there a reason way my nutz are being vibrated into numbness at low speeds? I mean really bad. Seems to smooth out when I hit 60mph. The handlebars just don't feel right, very narrow, is there an alternative? Would love them wider. I read somewhere on here once that compared to an S3 you sit 'IN' a S2, not on top of it. I have the exact opposite experience. I feel I'm on top of it and reaching for the controls. I'm on my tippy toes when stopped. My stock seat maybe needs to be reworked and made lower? Maybe my short height and small inseam makes the ergonomics unfavorable for me. Anything that can help me? It's such a badass looking bike and runs so well....

Shaking real bad---could be isolators
You should not feel shaking at low rpm's, this engine has a heavy flywheel.

The rest of your issues are personal preference.

Can I get a picture of the bottom of a stock seat? looking to seen the bumpers/cushioning. Funny , now that I think of it. There wasn't any buzzy vibration until after I put the new body parts on. Is there any cushioned/damping under the fiberglass tail piece that the seat sits on? I saw some on the new ones that matched the one ones. Is there any rubber washers below the tail piece wear the 4 bolts goes through?

I love your S2... you can too!!

It takes a different approach, it’s nothing like any other bike I’ve ever owned or ridden!

Let the bike reshape you, not you reshape the bike..

Narrow bars? Yeah, weird huh?? Funny pulls back, strange rise, clunky HD controls..

Yes some strange vibration, one of my bikes has an original motor, one has a thunderstorm out of an S3T donor...

Both vibrate but differently... they both like above 40 and above 3500(ish) RPM.

Tall, yes I’m short as well and these bikes put me on my tip toes...

Let go of expectations and re learn motorcycles and you will love the S2.

Continue to address the mechanical wrongs, as stated above, check isolators

If the bars are really giving you a problem, you could drill and mount some risers right to your top triple(might need some bracing from the bottom, hard to say without seeing it), and then you could mount any bars you wanted.

I'd be curious to hear what's causing your vibrations. My 97 S1 has a ton of vibration. By about 9-10 miles into my ride to work I'm usually dealing with some annoying numbness in my hands, and the bike in general shakes enough that I can usually hear/feel it through my helmet vibrating on my head(yes the helmet fits well). It's typically fine over 3000-3500rpm, but I have a lot of stop and go traffic on my commute, and that crazy vibration between idle and 2500 when I'm slipping the clutch to start moving or when I'm slowing down to a stop is less than enjoyable. I have to assume my bike does it worse than others, although front and rear isolators are all only a couple years older, I think they actually made the vibrations worse. Wouldn't mind trying a Stenzel bar someday. A lot of people say it cuts down on vibrations, but others say it makes them worse, so who knows. There are days I make it home from work with a little bit of a numb crotch, but that one's not as common.

Ok, made some ergonomic slight changes that make my more comfortable. Replaced the 1" grips with Avon comfort grip that reduces diameter close to 7/8". Loosened the clip-ons and spread them out a bit. Adjusted controls so they don't hit the front fairing. Replaced the bulky stock pegs with the 99'-02' rubber variety and put the peg lowering kit on. Much better feeling. The vibration still occurs, but I noticed it doesn't do it as much if I move back on the seat or plant myself more firmly. Thanks

Stenzel bar has noticeably reduced vibration on all my S3s in the idle to 3000 RPM range.
Please to ensure it is installed correctly. Very important the washer is in the right place.
Stenzel bar was supposed to stop the front mount bolts from breaking off in the head, but one of my old/original bolts has broken since installing the Stenzel bar. I suspect the original bolts were weaker than the replacement ones, as I have not had a replacement bolt break yet. Some of which have been installed for about ten years.

Thanks guys. Can someone take a picture of the underside of their seat? I have these hard rubber bumpers that are worn, but on some seat I see on ebay, they don't have them. I'm curious to see if the bottom of mine needs to be reworked. I sent my FLHTK seat to Mean City Cycles and they did a great job both lowering, narrowing and adding better foam.

Nothing like putting a D&D slip-on on to make me feel better to go with the new grips and peg setup, lol.

Please don’t take this as criticism but the vibration you speak of may be the way you ride. There is a sweet spot that the engine likes to be at for cruising and you might be lugging it or over revving it. If this is not the case, look at the isolator bushings or the front engine mounts. My S2T is a smooth cruiser.
Your S2 is very clean and quite a collectable bike. Keep it forever.

Great job Ed! For my rear, unfortunately the inner fairing was cur off. I have to devise something that comes off the license plate maybe or attaches to whats left of the inner rear fender.

Back to the vibrations...could this be self inflicted? I inspected the isolators. The top looks pretty new. I looked at the right rear and it looked good. Went over to the left and I saw a gap, like it was misaligned. I realized I did the kickstand plate upgrade and had taken off the isolator side plate. I'm thinking I must have screwed up the reassembly and not aligned the isolator(See picture below). If this was the case can I safely it and go back in to realign it? I don't recall these vibrations before doing the kickstand upgrade.

BSA - I just saw you're in St Augustine? I have family down there...I should look you up if I make it down for Christmas!

You are aware that Gustafsson Plastics is still there in town, yes? They (he) makes extremely nice windshields for the S2 - I believe he has the original molds, and can do stock, +1, +2, and +4" heights in clear or just about any shade/color tint you could want.

Keep us posted on how the isolator adjustment goes - if it isn't torn, try simply re-aligning it first to see if that takes care of things.

Oh ok Joe. I've seen Gustafsson at a few meets here, i didn't realize they were local like Sargent seats. Good to know. Realigned it last night, I had to lay on my back and watch the pin go into the isolator, I think I got it right. Test ride later. Thanks again guys.
