Is there a muffler replacement available for '98 S1W. Any other stock Buell mufflers that will work?

The S1W has the 2.5" inlet, so any of the later tubers exhausts will fit... Any of the X1 exhausts, the later M2 exhausts, and I believe the 98+ S3 exhausts. I can't say 100% on the M2/S3 years, but any of the 2.5" exhausts you can find on ebay will work.

Thanks for the info. Am I correct to assume the regular S1 does not have a 2.5" opening ?

Thanks for that info also. So, if I took an S1 muffler with 2" opening and installed an adapter on the muffler 2" to 2.5" to fit the S1W am I asking for problems ?

The only real problem you'd have is alignment and space. The headers are in a fixed position bolted to the heads, and the exhaust slides onto the header not quite vertically and then bolts on to the rubber mounted exhaust brackets. If you tried to wedge an adapter between there you're not going to get the exhaust's mounting holes to line up. Your only real option would be to cut the exhaust inlet shorter so you have room to fit in an adapter. If you go that route, please cut the exhaust, and not your header. Those S1W headers are amazing rare, as all of the other 2.5" headers go over the frame, but the S1W headers still go under the frame. The S3 might've been the same for 1 year, can't remember. Anyway, the 2.5" exhausts are probably easier to find than the 2" version. I remember when I was looking for a 2" exhaust for mine it was mostly finding 2.5" versions, plus then you can get yourself a nice stainless exhaust, instead of the painted version.

You're also gonna restrict the airflow switching to a smaller exhaust, since the diameter is getting cut down by 20%, you'll probably need rejet your carb so you're not running rich.

Are you currently in the possession of a 2" muffler?

No, I don't have a 2" muffler. I am looking for a stainless 2.5 S1W Muffler but I guess chances are slim and none. It has a Vance & Hines SS2r on it now and I want to back to stock.

You could always post in the wanted section in the classified, a lot of people here have little stockpiles and someone might have one they're willing to sell. Someone might also be willing to trade if they wanted to switch from their stock exhaust. My bike came with the same exhaust as yours, I ended up trading someone a Corbin seat I had for my S1 for a stock exhaust and airbox.

I thought most of the later tubers came with stainless exhausts, but after a quick search on ebay, I appear to be wrong, they're pretty much all painted black. Current listings are a ton of money and in rough shape. The completed listings show a couple that sold for a pretty decent shape. You can find one, but you might just have to search around for a bit. I wouldn't rush it and do an injustice to an S1W by modifying a 2" to fit and choking down the engine a bit. I'd keep an eye on ebay, check the classifies here, post in the wanted section, maybe see if the facebook group has anything to offer.

Yup, I did post in the classified section "Wanted to Buy" for an S1w 1998 muffler which was stainless. So far no response. I'm checking every day.

Have you checked with the guys at St. Paul Buell? They might have some contacts for you or inside info.

Myeah, I've sorta kept an eye out for stuff like that and haven't seen anything in the last few years. Guys are probably keeping them in the attic next to the canned food, bottled water and shotgun shells.

you could check out twin motorcycles. They have several exhausts listed, including the S1W race style. https://www.twinmotorcycles.nl/webshop/artikel.asp ?mc=1&aid=11055&cid=143&s=&a=

Yeah, I checked with St Paul HD. They bought numerous crates of Buell stuff but no luck on the S1W muffler.

I have all the parts to take mine back to stock- just in case, in the shed. I may would entertain selling it all, airbox, header, SS muffler, CF rear fender w/tag holder, ect, but it wouldn’t be cheap. I’d prefer to hang on to it all but I doubt I’d ever go back stock and sell the stock parts with the bike doesn’t seem to raise the value in my observation.

Looks like a muffler just came and went on the classifieds.

Was gonna come here to mention it, but then I saw it was gone. For that price, there's a good chance it'll be up on ebay for a bit more money soon haha. If not he got a hell of a deal.
