Are there any major differences between the S1 and S2 regarding the main wiring harness? Routing, connectors, etc...

Yes, lots. I have never tried to use one on an S1, but I do not believe they are compatible. IMHO, if you can't locate an S1 harness then a pre-fuelie S3 harness will work better. At least it did for me on a S1W restore. A few extra leads but much closer than the S2.

Even better would be an M2 harness, if you can find one
