Been noticing that some pictures of other people’s S2’s head tube have a riveted VIN plate and some have a stamped on VIN number, mine is physically stamped on. ... so is there any history/story on the variation between them?

Eric,

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe all have the glued-on foil VIN plate, and then either a stamped-in number or riveted/screwed on VIN plate. I can't get to my S2, but just looked at my S2T and it has the stamped number and the glued on foil plate.

Here is a pic of one with two plates:

Yup, exactly what I was wondering, mine is the stamped on the actual fork tube right next to the plastic/thin metal/foil mfg info tag.... maybe early vs late bikes? 49 state vs California only? Just plain run out of the the plates or rivets? Glad the numbers match!
