Looks like a good deal on a rare bike. If it was closer I would buy it.

WTF?

Guys, that is a picture of my bike! - bought in California a couple of years ago. Here is another angle of the bike in the seller's yard from when I bought it below. So this seller is using a file photo, or what?

Court,

I get that, but the picture in the new Atlanta ad is taken directly from the Morro Bay, California ad that I bought my bike from in 2016 (note the taller Rifle fairing and flag sticker on side case). I did a whole write-up on the purchase and restoration back in Jan 2017 but can't figure out how to add the link, sorry.

This seller obviously knows something about Buell S2's with reference to the S2T and Police bikes, but how/why would he use a 4 year old Craigslist file photo instead of what he is really selling?

I responded to the ad, no reply yet.

GIVE me an excuse to go check this bike out!!!lol.,Ive done hundred of pre purchase appraisals..Can't do em for free, but they take quite a while and I cant fit everything I use even on my bagger,lol[1980 stripped FLT],unless i put tour pak back on..

This is cracking me up! The guys on this board know just about all there is to know about old Buells. Whenever one pops up for sale almost always someone here knows about it and its history. Reminds me of a good friend of mine that is in the Edsel club and collects Edsels. Every time I see one for sale online or alongside the road I tell him about it and he always says "yea that's so and so's car that used to belong to another so and so and it has the wrong engine in it or it was wrecked and poorly repaired, or whatever. The sellers of these Buells apparently are not aware of this board and all the knowledge the members have!!!

When I bought my first Buell ...all the Buell owners in the world could fit in the same car.

It’s been a fun 33 years.

Kinda strange that he's not aware of, [or not admitting to] knowing badweb, and there's been no comm. via the posting to me or at least one other member here.Maybe because of the old pictures and " needing TLC"its actually worse off and he's tryin to find a unknowing sucker for a $2500 parts bikes, worse off meaning rod knock, trans knock or major interior issue. I've had plenty of Harley sales when the buyer sees my shop, hands me the askin price and loads up,even though in Ga a vehicle can legally be ridden without a tag provided.. I have had to insist a bike, especially after I have done and repair or upgrade that its ridden..Good luck to interested parties but it might be a red herring and pink elephant cross,lmao...I would suggest that if anyone does contact him,do not let on that we know the origin of these pictures.I myself have not and it might aid a member here to avoid bein "taken" by unscrupulouslessness. the hell with the spelling, lmao

I am the seller. The picture shown in the ad was furnished to me by way of the ad from the previous owner that I bought the bike from. Honestly the bike I have looks so similar to this I never even questioned it. The only reason the ad was pulled was because I have a commitment from someone to buy it. I have been given the run around for two months as it relates to someone who was supposed to pick it up and did not do so. For now, the bike is sold. At least until the weekend. I have all of the service records, police pictures, magazine the bikes were featured in at the time, as well of all the special Buell Documentation including the timing cover (never installed). Although I have a lot of experience with Harley and other bikes,I admit to not knowing a lot about these bikes. The person buying the bike will be furnished pictures of my bike shortly. Again, my most sincere apologies to the owner of the bike pictured if indeed that is the same bike I had in my posting. I will post pictures and irrefutable information regarding my bike here shortly.

The bikes got some attention when Built. We did those and a group for Cruise America (the RV rental folks).

Neither the PD or rental initiatives ever really gained traction, so to speak, but were fun projects.

Awesome!
The mystery unraveled! lol...Buelltours I think Tigermann is saying he is a past owner of this particular bike, sayin he can validate the pictures time frame as to be not current. If you need a second opinion on something or need someone to turn wrenches on this,I am Atlanta local with home shop and 40 years of resources. Anejo, learnin what you know and addin to the bikes history would be just fine, but don't feel like you have to communicate it to anyone but the intended buyer.I think there is an s series registry on here, but ownin a Cyclone,I don't have the deets. If this ain;t a fine example of brand brotherhood I don't know what would be.

These pictures were taken of Eric Buell along with the officers who got to ride them. From my research, only one other bike exists. One was totaled from my understanding. I will allow the new owner to share the serial number should he choose to do so. I can assure anyone following this that the bike is what it has been represented to be. Likewise, I will honor the price I agreed to sell it for even though I have been offered substantially more at this point. Once again, the serial number of my bike is NOT that of the bike from Morro Bay and I should have taken better care to notice the picture was not of my bike even though it has all of the fairings, etc included for the new owner. Pics are too large to post here. They have been furnished to the potential buyer. Thanks for the replies and understanding..

Steve (Anejo)

No apologies necessary - The old Craigslist ad picture your previous owner gave you is the S2T I bought and still have, and it is definitely not one of the Atlanta PD bikes (no evidence of sirens, lights, stickers, etc.). Since all Quicksilver Metalic S2Ts look so much alike, I'm sure he didn't think anything of it.

Good luck on the sale,
Andrew (Tigermann)

Here is the picture of the 3 Police bikes Anejo (Steve) sent to me last night. Court, I would be interested in a build sheet, if you have that somewhere in these many boxes you have yet to open :-) Interesting that the 6-button front calipers are apparently factory installed. I always thought all S2s had the prior 9 button disc. But then this would be the first 96 S2 bike I add to the stable...

There was a lot “in flux” with front rotors about that time.

One of the things in the barn, that is totllay useless but I can’t bring myself to throw away, are so e prototype rotors that Bret Schaller was testing on various Buells.

One of these rolled out o the S1 and was, short let thereafter, changed. If you look closely. . . The curved cooling slot should terminate between 2 buttons.

Brankin or Screamer likely more qualified to make the call on these brakes.

I did get the bike. Definitely one of the 3 Police bikes once sold to Duluth PD. Runs well, but needs bodywork/paint. There are 2 airtech pieces (front fairing and tail) which I would like to replace with original parts. If anyone knows about who made the police lights, that would be helpful too. Planning to eventually restore...

The Dan’s (Lang & Remington) built them. They’d likely know where the lights came from.
I’m betting off-the-shelf Whelan

Regarding brakes, I found a handwritten note in my 1996/1997 S2 Parts Catalog.
On the page with the front brake system (nine pin), I had drawn a line through the carrier part number (45116-94YA) and the disc part number (45118-96Y). After the two lines I had an arrow (merging the two numbers), which pointed to “45175-96Y Kit” (six pin).

Since I no longer have access to Hdnet, I use a dealer sponsored site that has (some) part number searching capabilities. Checking the numbers, it seems that although they were revised a few times, they don’t follow normal part number protocols. Makes it hard to be certain of the sequence of events.

I was hoping to find a trail that aligned with my notes and ultimately point to a mid-year production change. But so far, I can only speculate that there was a change from the 9 pin to the 6 pin (on S2 models) sometime during the 1996 production year. I also have a personal anecdote or two about S2 front brake components- but I can’t put a timeframe on them either.
So I’ll keep watching when I’m checking on other part information.
One other piece of info on the police equipment - in addition to Whelan, another frequent supplier to H-D was “Squad Fitters”.

The newest superseded part number is H0130.9B, doesn't give a month just has 1996 for introductory year. That kit part number you wrote done was the problem part for one of the recall campaigns for the 1998 year run. It superseded to 45175-96YA and then to H0130.9B, unfortunately h-dnet only has introductory years listed as the first part number date and not the part number supersede dates. So I assume the 45175-96YA came out mid-1998 since the recall date was September 1998 and I don't think there was any difference made between the 45175-96YA and H0130.9B. Most of the old harley style part numbers got changed just to differentiate themselves from HD around the time the XB's rolled out.
