That does look nice.
Get that starter lead squared away and it looks like there's nothing to do but put some miles on it.
The shock, exhaust and air cleaner look especially good on your bike, that's a really classy color comination.

While I think of it, I always had the idle adjust cable pointing back at my knee.

Thanks fellas. Myself I'm also very happy with how it came out : ). Hell of a job (almost two winters spent on it), but worth it.

Yeah thanks, ditching that kuryakyn air filter did wonders for the way the bike looks. I'll take a look at the lead. As for the idle adjuster. I wanted - and have tried - to route it the other way, but that seems to add undue strain on the cable. Not sure, but it seems to prefer this direction.

I have the same color.

Yeah I dig it. It's growing on me for sure. While not as outright spectacular as red or yellow, it does look classy.

Im sure it runs as good as it looks.

It does actually. It's just broken in (new 1250 kit, larger main jet, bigger rear pulley) and it feels perfect. Don't think it needs any more fettling. It did exhibit a few hiccups/irregularities higher in the rev range a few rides ago, but that was no doubt due to the fact the exhaust headers were starting to rattle themselves loose (now corrected).

You make me miss my old S1s.
Well, except for the seat! I swear, that was designed by a eunuch or perhaps a vengeful ex-wife.

Well, except for the seat!

It's certainly not the most comfortable seat I've ever tried, but I don't mind it that much honestly. Maybe it's because I'm also a cyclist and I'm used to some agony in that regard... Plus, I have the Ulysses if I want to travel with some more comfort.

Thank you, kind sir, means a lot.

You are tempting a weak man.

I had to pay top dollar (or euro) over here, but they're unbelievably cheap in your neck of the woods last I checked : D

Though I will admit, if they need as much work as mine did, that's cheap with an asterisk, but still...

I’ve always liked the silver on some level, it’s understated and simple, lets the bike speak for its self... it’s late ‘60s early ‘70 muscle car cool!!

Beautiful.

Only thing I'd change is put on an OEM carbon fiber hugger, with the plate mount.

I would love that, but alas, a good 99% of those were probably either cut up or destroyed at one point and the remaining 1% is sold at prices that I can't really justify (if they're sold at all).

Yeah same here. It's growing on me. Also goes well with the other colors I have (X1 in blue and the Ulysses in yellow, and a shared with my dad XB12S in black).

WOW! Makes me rethink using the PM rims I just picked up. Those darker gray rims with the gray frame and tank is stunning! Beautiful job, outstanding Buell!!!

Yeah, my X1 also has PM wheels, so I feel okay about leaving this one as original as possible.

I've been wanting to invest in some video equipment actually. So maybe soon, who knows :P.

Do you anticipate selling it?

No, barring serious financial trouble or the banning of gas powered vehicles (which - even though I know it's not a popular subject around here - given the seriousness of global warming, I would actually sort of grudgingly support), I don't plan on selling it. The S1 is, in my eyes, one of the most beautiful bikes ever designed. In addition it offers a riding experience that few other bikes can match. It's not the fastest, but it certainly is one of the most visceral, responsive and fun bikes to ride (and I've tried quite a few in my relatively short 15 years of riding).

There's also the matter of what I (and my dad) have invested in this particular bike in terms of $$$ and man hours. Don't think I'll be getting 10 grand for it anytime soon, so that's another reason why I suspect (and hope to) to be the owner of this fine example of East-Troy engineering for the rest of my life. Haha, sounds kind of dramatic, but it's true!

"WOW! Makes me rethink using the PM rims I just picked up."

People really love those PM rims, but honestly I think the Marchesinis look perfect on these bikes.

"or the banning of gas powered vehicles"

The good news for you, is if they ban them, no one is gonna wanna buy it from you, so you can keep it either way haha. I'm sure itll happen someday, but they'll have to be gradually phased out after they first quit selling gas vehicles, then quit selling fuel for gas vehicles, so we've got some time. Always been a concern of mine too. I want to keep my S1 forever, and pick up a couple project bikes to work on long term, and even though I'm looking forward to electric bikes, doesnt mean I ever want to give up bikes I'll already have.

Very true, I thought of saying that. Though in that case I'll be happy to take it out of the garage every now and then to just stare at it for a while. Maybe ride it for a bit on something I made in a bathtub :P

No I know man. It'll hurt, for sure.

To be honest, nothing really. We removed the old, thoroughly bubbled decals using a scalpel and simply 'inserted' the new decals afterwards. I thought they'd be good for a few years at least, buuuuuuuut.... I think I'm already seeing some tiny bubbles forming here and there.

I'll keep an eye on it and if it gets too bad, figure out another approach. Though I don't really feel like repainting the whole tank. Paint looks fine otherwise.
