My current battery has the positive on the right looking at the battery from the front on the gear shifter side. The one I received is a 'B' with the positive terminal on the left side (rear brake side. What is the stock configuration, 'L'?

Rich,

Here are the L and R sides of my completely stock S2T (with the exception of added battery tender leads) - not sure which is positive and can't get to the bike right now, but maybe this helps?

Interesting, thank you. The battery terminals in mine are facing forward towards the barrels. A guess at some point an owner reversed it. Wonder way? bought the wrong battery somewhere down the line? I'll have to see how everything lines up now in the right orientation. Tiger, mine is the same as yours where the positive (red wire) is on the left-hand side of the bike.

I'm just guessing, but I would think the black metal cover that is sandwiched between the battery and the chrome mounting bracket would only fit in one direction, forcing an OEM battery's terminals to face the rear of the bike.

The hold down plates have two holes, maybe you could reverse the battery and use the other set of holes?

Yeah, I'm going to try to reverse the battery, although it eliminates good access to the terminals. The battery cover is long gone. He wrapped a piece of rubber around the strap.

According to the parts book your battery terminals should be facing the rear of the bike and the positive terminal should be on the left side/primary side of the bike like tigermans is. At one point in time the previous owner put the wrong battery in there for some reason, hopefully didn't alter your cables so you can put it back the way it's supposed to go. I assume the battery was mounted in reverse from the factory to keep rain or any other road debris from hitting the battery and shorting out.
