Im going to service my WP forks. my question is do the race tech gold valve make a big difference? or is fresh oil and new heavier springs enough of an improvement?

Yes. The gold valves work.Installed them on a Dyna FXDX, M2 Cyclone, X1, Soon installing them on my 97 S1. Definite improvement on all of them.
