I apologize because I posted in another section yesterday.
I'm sure this is well discussed in here somewhere but I am unable to find what im looking for. What are the hurdles if possible to installing a fuel cell from an X1 on an S1W. Ive been battling the bubbling paint for years and have had it repainted a couple times. Would love to just install an X1 fuel cell and spray the skin with the Ice White Pearl. I know the X1's were FI and mines carb - any thoughts or suggestions? Greatly appreciated.

back of the tank is different because the frames/subframes are wider on the X1. If you want a similar effect and a much easier process you could just make a fiberglass cover for your S1 tank. It's on my list of things to do, that I might get to in 15 years...

How about a pre-built tank made of aluminum or steel?
I have an RS1200 with the stock fiberglass tank. Not ideal. I had another one made by;

Search for both on EBay using both spellings; Aluminium/Aluminum;

"I have an RS1200 with the stock fiberglass tank. Not ideal"

I updated my typo, that was supposed to say "make a fiberglass COVER for your S1 tank". You'll still have your original plastic tank and you can just make a cover to paint and slip over.

Thanks for the help everyone. not sure what im going to do. My fiberglass skills are nonexistent and theres no way im spending 1000-2000 on a tank.

I guess i'll keep scowering the interweb until something falls into my lap.

Has anyone tried a vinyl wrap?

I would try one of the Caswell tank liner materials and then a repaint.
I would think that outgassing would turn the vinyl wrap into one big booger.
As for fiberglass covers, you're still dealing with the outgassing, I found that out on my old S2 but it wasn't as severe as just a painted nylon tank.

There is not a tank liner made that will adhere to these tanks. Been tried over and over and they all eventually fail and destroy the tank.
The X1 mounts different and has a fuel pump sump in the bottom that will not fit in the frame.
You can not wrap the tank either it will make the bubbling worse!!!
Solution is a very good repaint following the proper procedure with a long cure time like 3 months cure time. But better to have an aluminum or steel tank made. Or make/ have made a cover like this

That cover is nice looking. Who/where made it? I would def consider something like that to just go over my existing tank. How would it be secured?

One of the german guys have one of this.
That was not in perfect quality, the area from the gas cap was not so perfect.
Another has this from England that was much more better.

You are not stuck to just holtworks for a tank. Any good metal shop can make you one.
Mine is one of 10 made only 2 surviving that I know of.

Speakeasy recently built a steel S1 tank
