Hello,

I recently picked up this 1997 S1. It has a little over 16,000 miles, and so far looks to be in very good condition. I’m addressing a few issues: small cracks in exhaust collector, and dirty carburetor.

I am looking for battery recommendations. It does not have the updated battery tray. Does anybody know of a battery that will fit the original battery tray? Also, would anybody happen to have the battery relocation kit they be willing to sell?

I am enjoying looking through all the posts and good information available on these forms.

Thanks.

I run a Shorai Lithium Battery LFX21A6-BS12. The Battery replacement kit number is Z0022.9, good luck finding one .

Welcome, this is the place to be. Even if your just a motorcycle buff, lot's of like minded folks here. PM me if you need a PDF shop manual and parts catalog.

Again, welcome to the madness.

Thank you for the battery recommendation.
If anybody else knows of a battery that will fit the original battery tray, and strap I'd appreciate a recommendation.

Yes, that's my S1 in the Instagram link.

Thank you.

Nice find, it looks very clean and unmolested.

Welcome to the club. Not long now before you start selling off your other bikes and start adding more Buells :P

I bought a '97 S1 last summer as well. Mine was in dire need of restoration though. The PO gave me a new battery as part of the deal, though he cheaped out a battery that I'm not sure will last very long.

Speaking of batteries though, I noticed my bike has a sort of smaller black tray in the battery tray (that's part of the frame) as it were. I'll shoot some pics later on. Would also like to have some more battery recommendations. There was talk on FB a while ago that standard batteries apparently don't stand up well to the vibrations?

I bought a battery tray relocation kit from SPHD a few months ago, $100 they charged me for it. I forget the guys name that took Lance’s position when he left. Regardless, send them a message and they can check inventory. I run a shorai lfx21a6-bs12 runs $150, or a bikemaster ms-12-14bs for $60.

Steve baugrud (Sbaugz) bought an old style battery from batteries plus. You may message him for the model if you’re not planning to update the tray.

That’s correct. Duracell DURAGM-12 from batteries plus fit in my S1W

I have a ‘97 S1 that I am working on and 1969 Harley 350 Sprint waiting for me to get to It. I use a Megaboost Platinum Series from the local Cycle Gear store for my S1. It’s been a good battery. I keep it on a tender.

Hard to go wrong with Yuasa.
The cheapies tend to fail miserably far from home. Last Chinese one that came with a used Buell had the case warp from the heat off of the header which was not much fun.

I went through two “powerstarHD” brand eBay batteries within a few weeks before giving up on them. I’ve used the Pirate Bay and chrome batteries in my old two strokes, waverunners, and some other old bikes. They worked ok and lasted. However, these Harley twins are tough on a battery, especially if it’s cold out.
