I installed XL cams after only 1000 miles on my S2T. Are they the same as stock sportster cams? Are they of any value to anyone?

I believe the stock S2 camshafts are standard issue Sportster cams of the same year. I threw mine away and replaced them with a set of Andrews N4's and never looked back. The N4's sacrifice nothing in low speed ridability, with the benefit of a stronger pulling mid-range and hi end. For a medium performance street cam, you might want to take a look at the N4's.

X1 and N4 cams are nearly an identical lobe profile. Stock S2 cams were the (production) Sportster “D” lobe profile.

Do you think they are of value to anyone or is it a paper weight?

Used X1 cams have some resale value.
Used S2 cams have very little resale value.

Do you know what year of X1 the cams came from?

I think I may have misunderstood. You installed XL (Sportster) cams in 2000 - or X1 cams?

Your description as “XL cams” was a little incomplete, but the photo clears it up - thanks. Those are usually referred to as “Screamin’ Eagle Bolt-in cams”.
They are (for the most part) the same profile as S1/S3/X1 and Andrews N4 cams.
Yes, they have re-sale value. Just curious, why are you considering removing them?

Wow. That was confusing. So a Sportster is a Harley XL1200. Screamin' Eagle cams for an XL (a Sportster) are more or less the same cams that S1, X1, and S3 all came with. And now Ted's S2 has the Screamin' Eagle cams too. And so, the question, do the stock cams that came out of Ted's S2, being stock XL cams (stock Sportster cams) have any value? I hope not because I just took two sets to the metal recycler.

I think the cam profile is different on Lightning and thunderstorm engines? If so, sounds like those are drop in lightning cams (96-98 models minus the S1W). I personally doubt the stock S2 cams have much value and there are several “Buell” sets on eBay that haven’t moved and likely a ton of stock XL cams.

Yes, Lightning and Thunderstorm (and, for the sake of argument, XB) cams are all different. Due to compression differences, head porting differences, flow differences, and power/torque targets for the various generations of engines.

Stock XL cams are...well...stock. And extremely common. I wouldn't feel bad about tossing a set, using them in an aquarium, turning them into desk-art...

After no interest in these cams I recycled the metal.
