So the end of last month I rode to Milwaukee and back (I put on about 1,000 miles) and I used about 1/2 quart of oil? Actually I'm not 100 % how much I used but when I left it was up to the mark on the dip stick and when I got back it wasn't on the dip stick anymore. I put about 1/2 a quart in it and brought it up close to the mark. The bike was cold too. I check the plugs and they are clean and dry maybe a little lean, and checked the tail pipe it's clean and dry with very little carbon in it? I do have a make shift catch can that I thought would work but just ended up with a little oil down the side of the bike?

Always check your oil hot. Should be between the two marks on the dipstick.

Nice X1 you have there.

Thanks, I added 1/2 a quart and it was close to the line. We rode about an hour to Norwalk Raceway/Summit and I checked it there and it was between the mark and the bottom. So I lost about 1/2 a quart in 1,000 miles? Is it the umbrella seals/valves?

Half a quart per 1000 miles is pretty good I'd say.

Mine has always eaten some oil since day #1.

I have always had to top off the tank a few times per oil change.

I wouldn't worry about it unless you're fogging for mosquitoes.

Nope not working for the state killing mosquitoes.

Check your plugs. If they're a little fouled out that would be an indication of the umbrella seals being bad or your rings giving way and to eliminate the rings you could do a compression test.

2000 miles per quart is good.

I agree 1/2 quart in 1,000 miles is normal oil consumption and nothing to worry about.
