I purchased my S2 in either 2000 or 2001 after falling in love with them at Sturgis. I found it on Ebay and picked it up from a gentleman in Tennessee for an amount I can't remember. I rode quite a bit for the first few years and then life started getting in the way of things (marriage, kids, jobs, etc). It looks like the last time I registered the bike was in 2006 so it has been sitting in storage for quite some time. The main reason I parked it was I blew a head gasket out of it and didn't have the money or knowledge to fix it. Now, all of these years later, I have put it back in the garage and actually have the motor back together again enough to ride it around the yard a little bit. My carb was shot so I installed a Mikuni unit but of course now the air cleaner won't fit. If anyone has any suggestions I would really appreciate it. Also, the body grommets are a little worn and I'm having trouble finding a set of those. There will be more things that will need to be addressed as I go I'm sure but man it felt great to hit the starter and hear it belch again. With any luck, I'll have it back on the road next spring and ready for some long overdue miles.

Oh and the cv carb cleans up nicely usually. CVP deluxe carb tuner kit for $65 got mine humming again and you can use the stock airbox : )

Thanks for the info on the well nuts. Exactly what I was looking for. As for the carb, I took it in to a friend of mine that rebuilds them and he informed me that the actual body of the carb is too pitted to seal the needle and seat anymore. We had planned to put a rebuild kit in it but after hearing that I figured I would just upgrade. I suppose with the ethanol blended fuels we have up here in the Dakotas it wrecked the aluminum.

I use a mikuni too you need this adapter to use your stock S2 air cleaner.You should be able to order from Mikuni.

Thanks a lot guys! I'll call Mikuni today and order the adapter and parts needed. Another stupid issue I'm having is that the blinkers don't work. In the past I took the bike to a local small Harley Shop and after messing with it for two weeks and charging me way too much money they basically told me that since it wasn't a "true" Harley they couldn't fix it. I used to be able to repeatedly hit the switch and manually operate the blinkers but now I don't have anything at all. I was told the blinker box was bad but I have trouble believing anything from that shop.

Most likely blinker box. Mine was intermittent and brighter on one side. I replaced it and all works well. I bought one on Facebook Tube Frame group for $15 shipped. There was one on eBay for $25 but I can’t find it now. Cheapest one I could find is $70.

If a shop cant fix turn signals, they don't deserve to work on motorcycles. Theres the flasher relay, handlebar switch, and the signals. I don't assume all 4 of your signals went bad at once, so you can rule them out. Handlebar switch is just an on/off switch, so it shouldnt take them more than a few minutes to test the continuity with a multimeter. The relay would just need swapped with a new one. If it's none of those, its something in the wiring and probably a grounding issue. I'd hope a mechanic can read a wiring diagram. Theres nothing buell specific about the wiring they used on these bikes.

Try replacing your relay. Theres a 90% chance that's what it is. I had some issues with my signals when I bought the bike. Handlebar control was grossed up and filled with cobwebs. Took 15 minutes to rebuild it, clean up the contacts, and put a little dielectric grease in there. I'd stay away from that shop in the future.

Sounds like it is the kind of shop that specializes in installing apehangers on baggers.

Its an S2...unlike any other Buell, they have self cancelling turn signals. Rather than a relay, it’s the red control box mounted on the frame back near the battery and voltage relay, and two switches, one per hanlebar. If none of them do anything, I agree it sounds like the culprit would be the self cancelling brain box, or the power lead going to t, or the grounding of same..

They are usually on eBay and the price is all over the place for one. It depends on whether the seller thinks “rare”=desirable. I don’t think is is failure prone, so chasing the power going to it before replacing it would be smart.

The turn signal modules had a low failure rate. The S2 was essentially the same as an early 90's Sportster, relying on a signal from the speedo - so the turn signals stay on if you're sitting at a light, but will self-cancel after the bike has some forward movement. This requires a slightly more complex wiring system that is somewhat sensitive to issues. Usually it's a grounding problem or connection issue at the connectors on the fairing bracket (below the dash).
