Hi again, Don here. so i finally bit the bullet. picked up this S1 and i love it so far even though i havent really been able to ride it (tires are pure junk) tires on order. a part of me wants to put it back to stock, but then id need another tube frame bike to modify because i cant leave well enough alone. i have the original air box, rear fender and rear cylinder heat shield. besides the recalled shock and chrome rear pulley its all ready to go back. one of the reasons i thought about leaving it stock was the factory exhaust is still intact. here are some pics. last seven of vin is 3200944 and engine number is 200944 production month says MAY - 96 could this be a number 944? the stock airbox parts and rear fender are hand laid fiberglass, not plastic. Sa-weet S1. You can always put it back to stock later. Find an exhaust, put a decent air filter on it and re-jet the carb. Thatll wake it up Heres mine... 563rd bike off the line in ‘96

That red is my favorite. The rear fender is actually carbon fiber (not the tail, the "hugger"). The early ones were painted because the lay out of the fiber was not cosmetically acceptable. I sanded mine down to remove the paint and had it clear coated. Looked fine to me. There's a race exhaust in the for sale section. It's cosmetically challenged, but that makes the price right. Intake choice is pretty much limited by your inseam. The only option for me was a Forcewinder. Luckily, I like them. I also have a factory race air cleaner, but my knee is all over it so I don't use it (sorry, not for sale). |

Nice bike! '96 is my favorite year S1, lots of cool and unique features the later S1s didn't have. My High Voltage Yellow S1 is the most satisfying bike I've ever ridden. |

Nice S1! A small group of us talked about the early S1 parts at Homecoming while circling the S1 race bikes and what turned out to be a special Chicago IMS giveaway S1 in carbon fiber. Former Buell employee Chris confirmed that some of the early huggers were painted fiberglass. I'd love to know more on the differences between the early & later S1s. DAve |

Froggy came by yesterday and we went up in the barn and dug through some of the stuff . . . there are cases of experimental parts, take offs, almost tried and just fun stuff. The coating, if I recall, was a substance called "Vinyl-on" that was sprayed on the low grade carbon fiber. |

Mine was also a 96 S1. Originally yellow that the po painted red. Here is the stages I went through. Red- when purchased Flat black- hated red New parts new tank Complete rebuild gloss black Then today- today only the 96 motor remains

Great looking bike. Currently in the process of putting the stock exhaust back on mine, and maybe the original airbox. Ride it for a while before you decide what you want to do with it. |

The m2 motor I got looks to have a X1 stainless 2.5" Header on it. Looks like a v&h pipe with some other cap wedged on it. Also came with a 2002 spec carb and screaming eagle intake

pull the wrap off the header. I heard wrap can crack the header somehow. hopefully yours is good and you can clean it up and rock that and the SE on your new S1 |

I’ll bet you a dollar the header contacts the frame when the engine is running. |

Does that WB exhaust come with a midpipe? or do you just get that exhaust? It looks nice, but keep in mind S1 headers stop in front of the engine, not under it. If you pick up that exhaust make sure it either comes with the 90 degree midpipe, or factor in the cost of getting something made so you are able to connect it. |

yeah i realized it was missing the pipe (seller does not have it) and id rather not have a crappy crush bent mid pipe. it is cheap, i could have someone make one but that would require me either fixing that s1w 2.5" header or.... wait... is that 2"? crap |
