I'm just wrapping up an x1 swingarm swap on my S1 and I ran into an issue with the rear shock bolt. It appears that the X1 swingarm requires a longer bolt for the rear shock eye. I looked at the parts list online and the bolt for the x1 swingarm is M12-1.75 x 55 socket head cap screw with (2) flat washers, m12 X 20mm od. These parts are proving hard to find, I can't find any washers with an od that is that small. Does anyone have any spares they would be willing to sell? How have others addressed this issue?

Locking washers typically have a smaller outside diameter than normal washers. There's no reason you couldn't just use two of those instead of regular flat washers.

I'm in the process of doing the same swingarm swap, my old bolt didn't even have any washers on it, so I probably wasn't even going to use any on the new one.

If you don't want to try the locking washer, you could easily just buy an 8mm or 10mm washer and drill the center hole out to 12mm so it fits into the recesses on the swingarm.

Just curious since I posted another thread yesterday morning... did you replace your mounting block, or did you just file down the old one to fit the new swingarm? If you replaced it, did you pull the headers to drop the engine down out of the frame more, or did you find a good way to actually get a wrench on both sides of that top left hand mount bolt without removing the header?? I'd also be curious to see where you find a good replacement bolt. I found some online, but the shipping usually costs 4 times the cost of the bolt. I haven't gotten around to ordering a new one yet.

Maiden,
The old bolt didn't have any washers because it was going into a steel swingarm, I believe the aluminum swingarm uses washer for additional strength / clamping area. If you try to reuse the old bolt you will see that the threads come just shy of the nylon locking agent on the nut (not good). A longer bolt with the lock washers might be a good idea.

To answer your question, I did replace the mounting block, and I did it when my frame was getting powder coated so the header was also off

edit: I just checked and a typical m12 lock washer still has an od larger than 20mm, your idea about drilling out m10 washers is probably the way to go

I definitely noticed the bolt was too short. I had read about that when I first planned the swap, and looked around online for a place to order a new one. Just had a hard time finding somewhere I could order the $2 bolt without having to pay $10 to ship it. Good point about switching from steel to aluminum though, I'll pick up some washers while I'm at it, and double check to make sure that the 55mm would still be long enough once I add some washers in there.

I was also looking through Battle2Win that has an article about the swap (vol 2 issue 4) and it also talks about some of the swingarms that had thinner tangs and required the shock to be shimmed from inside the swingarms mounts as well, so you don't crack the aluminum as you tighten the swingarm. I'll have to take a look at my swingarm when I get home and see if I'll also need to try to track down some 12mm shims to be safe. Here's the link 1313 posted in case what I said didn't make sense...

Stopped at Lowes for sone hardware and I unexpectedly found your solution... 1/2" machine bushings. They're in the normal hardware section in one of the drawers.
