I replaced all the body work on my S2T. The front fender has two holes on the left hand side rear portion. The original fender does not. What are they for, and if for some bracket , has anyone got a picture? Thanks | ||

If I remember correctly they are for the speedo cable guides. | ||

Yep, some models (like mine) used the chrome plastic clips to hold the speedo cable. Later models used the metal hook seen on most future tubers. I’ve tried to keep mine original, hanging on to the plastic clips. But they pop out all the time. I see why they went to a metal clip. | ||

I don't think the stopping point on the clip style cable guide is correct, my vin is after that date and mine had it. I removed them filled in the holes and started to run the metal guide with a zip tie closing the end off to keep the speedo cable in it. | ||

At this point, it's hard to tell what's got factory panels on it anyway. My '95 (#1365), when still with its original owner, had some bodywork replaced under warranty due to delamination, back in '96 I believe. It got factory -T bags and peg drops at the same time, all color-matched. But...I have the early fender with the extra hole...and the metal cable guide setup. 22 years is a long time for stuff to get changed/updated/upgraded... | ||

I’ve got a few in my box I think if you want me to send you a couple. They usually come in a pack of 10. I may convert to the metal clip if they keep popping out.  | ||

My clips would just keep popping out of the fender holes....I found the best way to secure the clips was to add a thin washer behind the fender - just the right size for the clips to snap into and hold against  | ||

Also make sure your speedo drive is clocked to the correct position to keep the pressure off the speedo cable clips. | ||

...and the trick for that is to put your front end on the ground with the axle nut loose, so the drive can spin between the wheel and fork. Bounce the front end a couple times, let the drive clock itself...THEN torque your axle nut. And I will confess the photo above made me realize I was thinking of the wrong hole. My '95 does not have the two holes at the rear, where the clips are. I was thinking of the "extra" hole at the leading edge. | ||

Interesting stuff. I’ll check it when I pull the front wheel. Been getting a clickity clack out of the front end, determined it was my eBayed used Nissin rotor, slightly warped grabbing the pads then dropping them on the upper pin. Oddly, no pulsing or odd braking. I ordered another to try. | ||

FYI, my records show the following: "Front fender change - effective on S2 #1337 (Cal S2 #52): elimination of the speedometer cable clip mounting holes which initiated the use of a wire retainer part number 67368-95Y". | ||

John, Mine came black, and I have never seen chrome ones on early S2 pictures. Like Lance said.....my 2009 XR1200 has the same black clips holding wires to the underside of the handlebar, snapping into tiny holes there. | ||

Use the black clips if you can, once you chrome them they tend to break easier. |
