Do you not like your exhaust studs and valves? Not only that you'll loose all your low and mid range power with them.

What do you mean, "work"?

Can they be bolted up - yes. Will the engine start - yes. Can the carburetor be jetted to make the engine achieve red line rpm -yes. Will it also idle and pull well from stop lights - no.

Will it improve performance - no. Will it burn valves - yes. Will it set your pants leg on fire - maybe. Will your neighbors want to set your bike on fire while you sleep - perhaps.

All in all, a seriously bad idea that will change a competitive race bike into a large cigarette lighter.

I recall seeing a woman passenger on a Harley light her cigarette from the exhaust when I was about four in Los Angeles and thought that was the coolest thing. I have grown up.

Thanks for all the post.
My root issue is that I have gone through a
vance and hines, and a DD muffler. And now I do not see many options anymore. I made my own from 90degree 2.5 stainless and a baffle from drag which is ok, but a little heavy.
I was considering if the drag pipes make it over the frame and then use some after market battles to reduce some noise and add some back pressure.

What happened to the D&D? How did it fail?

where the joints meet between the elbow and muffler, they went back and forth so much it slowly wore the joint thin.

I really did like the DD. probably should have gotten the stainless instead of the black.
The bike has 55K miles with a X1 engine put in at 35K.
Just a little tired of putting $$ into it. thinking of a XB or a FZ-09.

Drag pipes feel flat, not much response, they are just for high rev's. but if you add tapered end slip on's they work well about 33" total length work well. but no idea how they would fit to an M2.
when i dynode my m2, the stock 2" with stainless sport muff had a nice smooth torque curve. if you used duels might need to do a bit of tuning, but from experience tuning Harleys. 2 into one get there torque sooner but it falls off earlier, the duels get torque after 3,500 and carry it to higher rev.

Perhaps you should revert back to the stocker but modify the innards like with a drummer?
The stockers are heavy as hell but seem to be mounted quite well.

Do you still have the stock headers?

yes still have stock header.
that then is connected to a 2.5in stainless bend and down out the back, with a baffle from drag specialties and a 1.75 reducer towards end.

The stock setup was probably the best. unfortunately I tossed the original muffler years ago when I went to the vance and hines.

Drag pipes do not burn up valves if the bike is halfway decently tuned. That is a myth.

They do make your engine run like crap in street use. That is true.

Pretty sure Lance knows what he is talking about on this one!
Why dont you talk with Dean Adams here on the site he makes vary good exhausts with excellent mounts that will bolt up to your stock pipe. Mounted correctly following the exhaust 101 (pm me for a copy) it will last you!

+1000 on Dean's work. I haven't run one personally but I've seen a lot of them on badwebber's bikes and they're nicely done. And, he's making a reproduction of the factory race mufflers, IIRC. I run the factory race cans on my S1W and on the M2, and love them. Repackable, durable, nice looks, good sound.

Another quality option is the Supertrapp internal disc - it used to be marketed as the Buell "performance" pipe as a slip-on (the race pipes require a special header), but the Supertrapp will fit a factory header. Also a quality piece.

You have had bad luck, choosing probably the two least-durable pieces out there for a Buell.

I'll back Dan - it wont kill your valves.
I ran open header on the race bike for about 2 years...bike ran great for long after I replaced the exhaust.
Eventually the motor did go, but it was a bearing that did itself in.

as my exhaust crumbled, I too ran pretty much open header until the 90 degree bend cracked as well, probably about a year. I just had the top end apart and the valves were fine.

I will stick with what I got for now until I have a garage again.
