Can you guys tell me what is the best way to bring my PM wheels back to a brilliant shine.

Two of my Buells have them and all could use some love.

Thanks guys...

Edit: Actually, two bikes have PM wheels, both X1 Lightning's

The factory service manual says to use Mothers Aluminum polish. Or aluminium polish, if you're reading this with a silly accent. : )

1: pull wheels and drop them off at the polishing shop

2: have a drink

3: have another drink

4: pick them up from the polisher

Done!

Are you just polishing or reviving? I've bought a few bikes with really trashed wheels and I've brought them back...

Remove wheels.... it's the only way...

I used a wool buffing wheel (I think it was actually a head light restoring kit?) in a drill and maguires rubbing compound.. liberal amounts... then cleaned that off and used "Nevr-Dull"

http://m.oreillyauto.com/h5/r/oap/site/c/detail/EA G1/1035605/N0454.oap?ck=Search_N0454_-1_-1&rpl=1&c ategoryRedirect=N0454&pt=N0454

.. it's a cotton batting, that has a polishing compound in it. It's a silver can sold at automotive stores... great stuff!! Then your favorite metal polish like mothers. I use a product called "Purple", it's probably the best I've ever used!

Takes a little bit of work but it really works well even on seemingly thrashed wheels..

First off, thanks for all the replies guys.

Well, here is what happens.

I live in Wisconsin. Don't ride the Buell's in the Winter. But...corrosion is the enemy I face.

You are right Jolly, it's reviving that I am after.

Both of my X1's have a couple of spots on the rotor side. Assume that is because the rotor is depositing (dripping) something onto them. Not sure how it happens, but it's only on the rotor side.

I used to use Nevr Dull in the Navy. I also will be seeking out the Maas products. I'll get the Purple Deoxidizer and the polish too. Can't have enough of a good thing.

You are correct about taking them off for the reviving part. Then maintain on the bike. I got it.

I'll take some before and after pics. After all, I've got to get these bikes pretty for Homecoming...

Steve, don't make them look too nice. It will make ours look that much worst.

No worries Matt...

Ross, you funny man! Are you coming out for Homecoming with Zac4mac?

OK, so I just ordered the California Custom Products.

Now on to the Maas product line.

My summer is booked this year so it's unlikely. If not this year, hopefully next.

White diamond polish is available at the auto parts store and will even polish plastics. I've had good luck with it.

Oh, I'll make sure Doris puts you to work. Maybe build a retaining wall for us in your "spare" time
