So, I wound up selling my M2 and bought a new HD Roadster. I've been kicking around the idea of putting the HD SE Stage 4 kit on it.

Seems like a pretty neat kit at a great price and it includes new heads. So, if I do this, I will have a nearly new set of 2016 Sportster heads sitting around collecting dust. From what I understand these late model heads are the same as XB heads performance-wise, and can work with the tuber mount.

So, if someone wanted to buy the heads, it would make the Stage 4 kit a no-brainer.... and one of you could wind up with a nearly new (1400 miles) set of heads.

Thoughts? If I'm wrong, please someone step in and correct me.

How are you liking that Roadster?
I am curious what the HP and TQ are before and after that stage 4 kit

The Roadster is great... for a Sportster. I came from an 1125CR to it, so it was a bit of a shock at first (where did the 100 ponies go?!)

According to the graph in the video, the stock motor maxed out the torque at 68-69 around 3500 and HP at 62-63 at about 5500. The Stage 4 kit says it almost gets to 90hp at 6500 rpm while it looks like it maxes out at about 75ft-lbs of torque, while keeping that curve nice and flat.

Definitely a still off the mark from a Thunderstorm headed motor, but going in the right direction. Probably still has the heavier flywheels and about 200-250 lbs heavier overall.

I'd imagine these heads should wake up an non-T storm headed M2, S1, etc...

34nineteen looks good, i drag race sometimes and local dealer tuned up a sportster seventy two they used those heads & high comp pistons & cam set could have been same kit but they ran a 3" race type filter like Hammer sell & with stock air cleaner cover. i think that 90degree bend filter in the kit does not flow as well as the ham can style with 3" eliment as the ham can has more air space and no 90 degree bend. the sportster 72 they raced was running mid to low 11 seconds quarter mile 118mile per hour trap speeds that good performance for a bike that weight. enjoy the new roadster looks good to. how are the brakes? how does it handle?

Unfortunately, the 58mm throttle body requires a air cleaner that's compatible with it, and the 90 degree job is all they have that will fit. I've already done the SE air cleaner kit that basically convert the stock setup with the "snorkel" over to a ham can style. Personally, i'd rather keep that setup, but I can't find an adapter for it. So, I may be stuck with the 90 degree bend...

The upside is that the 90 degree bend "heavy breather" air cleaner looks like it won't hit my right knee like the stocker does.

For me and my pussy footing around town, the Roadsters brakes and suspension do work very well, for a Sportster. I dare not compare them, as my XBSS and the Roadster are in two different leagues.

Nonetheless, it's a good bike and I think HD has gotten it to about as good as a Sporty will ever be.

So, I looked up my heads in the Harley catalog and it looks like the bosses in the front head are 7/16" (HD P/N 3854), so that should be half of the battle. I will try to measure the spacing to see if that matches up as well. I think the XB and tubers were slightly different, and I'd imagine my heads will match the XB spacing.

can understand, can you still use stock 51mm TB? i think that would flow enough air?

IIRC the stock TB is not 51mm. The stock TC throttlebodies for example are only 49mm. I nelieve the XL tb is 45mm like the X1s were, though it is a completely different unit. I know the inlet on the manifold is tiny tiny.

Roadster heads are the exact same castings as the 08-10 XB heads, except drilled and tapped for breather bolts, though the breather holes are a smaller size than the tubers, so they have to be bored and tapped. You would need a custom front motor mount like the ones Hammer sells, and you would need to either use the thicker James intake seals, or get one of the Hammer billet manifolds that is 1/8" wider to take up the extra gap, as 07-up XL and 08-10 XB are mahcined for a 1/8" wider manifold spacing.

Thanks Ross, i would like a set of 07 up XL heads. as found a 03 unmolested ( Stock 1200 Sporty ) will put my M2 away just keep it & put the 88 axtell cast iron barrels i have into the sporty.
I just thought the new XL's would use the same TB as big twins friend just told me his BT TB was 51. i would think a 51 TB would flow more than enough air for a 1200 motor to rev to 6,5000

Thanks for the input Ross, I would have never guessed the different inlet manifold width. The breather holes makes sense, as I had an aftermarket breather on my M2 that had both sets of bolts.
