Can anybody tell me why my timing wires could be run straight to my coils? Like old points.
Why do I need a computer. I have an X1, carbueated conversion.

Your question is not clear.
Did you just buy a bike that had already been modified, or are you in the process of modifying it?

You could get a different pickup / ignition sensor like a Ultima, which connects directly to the coil and bypasses the stock computer.

To clarify the situation - an X1, from the factory, had DDFI fuel injection. That required a computer, in order to run not only ignition but also engine temperature information, RPM information, throttle position information, and ambient temperature information in order to provide the proper settings for the fuel system (timing and amount of fuel) in addition to the ignition timing.

If the X1 you have has been converted to carburetor, you can get rid of the "computer"...but you still need an ignition module of some sort. Points systems were old-fashioned inertia/spring based advance systems that would advance or retard timing - mechanically - based on engine speed. Crude...but it worked. Now, any "electronic ignition system" will have at least an RPM-based electronic advance function. Some have controls on the module housing where you can set different parameters to help fine-tune the system.

Appearances can be deceiving - an M2 ignition module uses pretty much the same casing and plug connectors, as an X1 EFI computer. But as you can imagine...they are vastly different items. If you have an X1 that was converted and all they did was delete the injectors and stick a carburetor on...yeah, you need to get yourself a dedicated ignition module setup. The X1 computer is probably trying to "do it all", and not understanding why it's not working the way it expects it to.

I use an M2 module on my carbureted S3. I lap-soldered the wires under aircraft-grade shrink wrap and eliminated the Deutsch connectors. The colors match up. It is possible to replace the hall-effect timing trigger cup and sensor with points, but unless you are planning for the big EMP pulse to knock out all computers, there is no advantage to be gained.
