I need one.

-I'm guessing they would interchange with other tubers?

Any other bikes?

Anyone have one sitting around collecting dust??

Depends on what year...

'97 had Brembo master.

'98-'02 had Nissin, but with varying 'flavors' of brake fluid. DOT 5 early on switched to DOT 4 (in 2000?). No idea on 'mixing' (using DOT 4 or 5 master on a DOT 5 or 4 system) as seals and such are likely tailored to the fluid it was made to be used with. After all that, my '02 X1 parts book answered the question with the -98Y part number, the same Nissin master was used for '98-'02.

From model to model, the length of hose from the reservoir to the master might be different, although with the commonalities between the M2 and S3/S3-T frames, a rear master from a like year/range should match your S3-T rear master exactly.

Never never never mix dot 5 with any other brake fluid. If you do that it will destroy all the seals and rubber components in the brake system.

If you mix synthetic (dot 5) with dot 3 or 4 it will make all your seal and rubber components swell up and start breaking down, one this starts you can't stop it. Your master cylinder will start plug up and the return port will plug up with rubber and slowly lock up your caliper due to the fluid expanding from braking heat. We've seen this all happen more then once.

All the seals and rubber components are made to be used with all the brake fluids. Once one type is used you can't change to the other type without changing all the rubber components and purging ALL the old fluid from every part completely.

Thanks for all the info. I have a 98... may be best for me to find a master/line/caliper from someone parting one out, to make sure everything jives.
