As some of you remember this CNC clear window intake That another member posted a little while ago.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/CNC-Rough-Crafts-Air-Clean er-Intake-Filter-System-For-Harley-Sportster-04-20 15-/122177868559?hash=item1c725e530f

I believe they installed it on a non EFI buell and it looked amazing. So for $35 give or take i decided to give it a shot and see if i could make it work on my EFI X1. As you know, the issue is the IAT sensor that we need for the incoming air. All i did was take a 3" rubber coupling from homedepot that is meant for connecting PVC pipes together. They are a nice thick black rubber so i knew it would seal nicely onto the filter and the flat face of the intake. So i cut a 1" wide section out if it, drilled the hole for the sensor, and that was it. The i went to the hardware section and grabbed a couple 1" spacers and some 1" longer M6 button head screws and that was it! No cutting or even drilling for that matter of the intake. Just the rubber coupling. The OD of the spacers even match up perfectly to the intake spacers so it is completely seamless. I think i have under $40 into the entire intake, and that includes buying the intake itself. Its a real nice piece and i would recommend it. attached is a picture below so you can see it on the bike. Let me know if you have any questions or want more pictures.

I like that a lot.
It would probably smack my kneecap though.

You need some sexy lights in there!

And this is why Figure Machine recently went out of business. Damn Chinese had the audacity to even use the FM logos.

Exactly Phelan.
After Figure went bye bye I ordered one of these. I wanted to see exactly what they made from their theft.
After 3 months and nothing arrived they finally reshipped it. After 4 weeks package was delivered to someplace in Maine but I live in Mn. Then it took 20 or so enails and ebay to get my money back. Then 3 weeks later guess what shows up!
Would have rather paid for the american customer service!!!

"had the audacity to even use the FM logos."

And print a big *USA* right next to the logo.

Looking at what you did, makes me wonder if that rubber would be any kind of suitable replacement for the sidestand rubber/flipper. I'll have to measure the space in my sidestand but I bet that piece is just about the right thickness. I know it wouldn't be as durable, but for it's purpose of flipping up the sidestand if I forget, and the fact that you could probably cut 10 of them out of one gasket, it could be worth the $3.

I like it.

I actually ordered one yesterday off ebay but from someone in CA as to avoid that overseas shipping. I should have checked Amazon.

Little concerned about my knee at 6'2" but figured for $32 I would give it a try.

Come back and let us know how it fits for you once you get it. I'm also 6'2" with long legs. I have a Forcewinder on my S1 currently that works fine for me, but I like the looks of these better.

I just got mine delivered by amazon.

Does anyone know where I can get an intake temp sensor wiring pigtail or what the equivalent ford part is?

I would like to relocate it behind the flyscreen

Bad idea to relocate that there.
It's supposed to have its nose in what the bike is breathing.
The computer does a bunch of scary math to determine how much air is actually getting in to the engine.
% of throttle, RPM, air temp all taken into consideration.

Remember that it has no mass air flow sensor.

The air behind the fly screen should be close enough in temperature to the air coming into the engine with such an open engine that it won't matter.

Ive tuned haltech EFI on a couple of engines the air temperature correction I used was about about %5 fueling change per 25 degrees, I don't expect anywhere near 25 degrees of difference. Those engines also didn't use maf or mas sensor.

Court: Are you offering that one for sale, or are you just showing off that you have one and I don't??

I tried to order one after I first got the bike but Lance told me they were no more.

BIB: Good find! I didn't know Honda's used them too. I'll look into that one a little more when I'm not at work.

I wonder how the airflow is on these Chinese filters. I really like my forcewinder, it's my favorite style of the available A/Cs, but the filter itself looks like a beat up wreck. It'd cost me more to replace the cone filter than it would be to buy a whole new setup like this.

The actual filters are cheap. But there is easily aquired replacements of all quality levels at the local auto store.
I actually made my set up from a 4" mr gasket one they take the same filter element

I think the quality of the filter element is fine if you consider it a disposable filter.

My kit had the wrong thread pitch for the bolts going to the throttle body. I personally like this better than the force it's replacing. I always thought the force stuck out like an excess appendage.

I believe the forcewinder is an oval cone, but there are cheaper round cone versions available.

If it works and just looks bad, put a filer sock on it and keep riding.

I felt the forcewinder was my only option because I am tall. A friend had the carbon race filter and I remembered hitting my knee on it multiple times.

Figured for $33 I'd give this one a try.
Should be here tomorrow so hope to have a report by end of weekend.

>>I always thought the force stuck out like an excess appendage.

Totally agree but at 6'3" myself, I needed the knee room.
I always wanted one of those tilted ham can style racing intakes but I tried sitting on another
X1 with that cleaner and the corner bit that little notch right at the corner of my kneecap.
OW.

The real amazing part is how cheap they are selling it. Im a mechanical engineer and work with our machine shop every day. There is no way that we could ever make this thing for anywhere close to $35. Raw material, cost to operate the CNC, and anodizing. How they still have room ontop for any sort of profit is mind blowing.

When you labor is 1/8 the cost across the board from shipping and making the material prices get really low really quick but Still?

I'm always amazed how cheap stuff can even ship, outside of manufacturing expenses. I see stuff listed on ebay for 99cents with free shipping from China. I don't understand how something can even be shipped from across the world all the way to my door for 99cents, without even considering the fact that someone made the thing, and someone is still making a profit off of it.

What's even more sad, is knowing stuff like this filter can be made, sold and shipped for $35, yet they've got the same workers in the same kind of factories making air Jordan's out of $2 worth of materials, and people are still silly enough to pay $200 for them.

My preliminary report is my knee will hit if I sit normally on the seat.
I usually try to sit back as far as I can and hitting my knee will probably remind me.
Not sure if it is going to work out but it sure looks nice.
Going to pick up a few extra washers so it seals better to the heads and give it a shot Sun/Mon.
At the end I will probably have to go back to the stock box and wait until I can afford a Forcewinder.
