Is it normal for the heim joints on these Storz dampers to bobble so freely: https://vid.me/Fp0d?

I'm worried it's going to jangle like crazy on the bad roads I normally ride on.

Also, any recommendations for how stiff/loose to start? This is my first experience w/ a damper, so any tips are appreciated. (I got it due to a few spooky experiences w/ headshake in the past)

I've never felt the need for a steering damper on mine.
Correct tire pressure and suspension settings are a MUST.

If you think it may be suspect, I would suggest removing it and see if you like the way it feels.

I just got the damper. I lived in NYC for many years, where the highways are absolutely terrible. The BQE basically has launch ramps in some areas.

I had a very scary experience w/ a pothole about 5 years ago. I nailed it as I was going a little faster than speed limit –though not particularly excessive– and rode out a pretty good wobble. Spooked me. Have wanted a damper since then; finally got this Storz from a fellow badwebber.

I've had a penske shock since before that incident, and got help dialing it in at a local moto shop. Not religious about tire pressure, but I check it every 2-4 rides, depending on time passed.

I'll start w/ the Storz on a low-resistance setting and see how that does. Hopefully it doesn't rattle too much, but thought maybe someone would have a trick for sucking up some of the slack in the heim joints.

Mine also seemed very loose, but don't worry, you won't hear any jangling over the engine, exhaust, and wind noise.
I can't think of a thing one could add that wouldn't potentially affect it.
I always kept mine on the lowest setting. For High speed it might be useful, but for tight backroads, my M2 works much better without it. So I left it off.

Thanks Jayvee. I actually just got an email back from the folks at Storz, saying the same thing: "The damper needs to be free to "flop" on the heim joints, just as shown in you video, to avoid any binding when the front fork moves from right to left. Steve"

steering dampers good ideal! especially if you ride at high speeds as Buell short wheelbase, you need them on your bike if you go over 120mph in speed traps at drags too. if too tight not good idea at lower speeds, the loose feel on mount a good thing! just leave it so can turn bike with no resistance, if your riding at speed and feel a wobble going hard or shifting gear hard feel a wobble just go a click up.
i got an Ohlans works good have mine mounted different to the rest i've seen.
