Hi,

After having tyres changed it seems my swing arm has the bearings shot, or loose, I was wondering if the parts from an X1 are the same, as if I have to change them I have some from the X1, and what do people think about using an X1 swing arm?

Thanks

The bike has 40.000 kilometres if this gives any hint on if bearings could be shot.

The bearings are the same. The swingarms are interchangeable but you'll need the swingarm mounting block or to slightly modify the block on your older S3.

It's unusual for swingarm bearings to wear out, they have a very short movement. Typically, if there are problems it's from water getting past the seal and rusting them. In normal use that's rare - folks who use a pressure washer to clean their bike are the ones who see that happen.

Another likely culprit is the long, skinny bolt that holds the bearing blocks together. They break.

Either way, you'll need to drop your swingarm. Seems to me that's the perfect time to swap over to the later aluminum swingarm if you like it. They aluminum swingarm weighs more, but is stiffer and looks way better.

I have a spare Ali swing arm and the mount block too, the show saw the movement while having th bike jacked up on the the place where the swing arm holds the shock, I'm wondering if this movement can come from the isolators and that the movement is something normal, as the bike runs fine and I don't feel any thing strange on the rear even in long bumped turns.
I have no way to judge as so far I have done under 120 miles on it.

Jack the bike up and make sure for yourself what's happening!

Fyi I have swapped S1, M2, and X1 swingarms all around only issue I ever had was the bump stop is a little diffrent on the steel arm which a file fixes in a few minutes. I know others had issues but I have not

The screw that holds the two metal pieces against the bearings was broken that was the problem, but a hell of a lot to remove it.

How does something like that even break?

It happens when the previous person working on it does not follow the service manual and torque specs!
Those bolts and pieces set the preliad on the bearings!

Well as some time in the past the silent blocks were changed, so maybe some one over torqued it, but well now it has been done the right way and while at it put new silent blocks.

I've seen more of those bolts broken than whole.
