I an looking for chain conversion advise on my 1996 S1 Lightning,
What works best? Sprocket sizes? Ratios? Chain Slack Tensioner?

You should just be able top use the adjusters built into your swingarm, plus you can cut the chain to whatever length you need. Are you looking to change your gear ratio? Otherwise I'd just sick with the same ratio.

I can't remember precisely what I used for mine when I did it. But, sprockets will be Sportster bits. You'll need the output shaft spacer from a '90. Ratio is what ever you want. You'll want the front sprocket to be on the big side to get the chain away from the swing arm mounting block. Regardless, the chain is going to dig into the block. I machined about .250 from mine and bolted on a piece of delrin for a chain slider. You MUST be careful to set slack correctly - if it's to tight you'll tear the bike up. Chains are not forgiving.

Unless you are racing and need the ability to change ratios chains are a negative. The belt is clearly better for day to day use (yes, that's an opinion, but a damn good one : ) ).

I mean, are you racing it or what?
