So originally I think both hanger tabs were on the inside.

When I had my muffler welded at the front from a crack, from a broken L header bracket. It was put on like it is pictured.

Took the bike to OC Harley Davidson, they said it's correct the way it is now, pictured.

I swear I've seen pics where both the hanger tabs sit on the inside.

I just bought a replacement so I want to confirm when I get it installed.

one of the hanger tabs bolts onto a tab from the mounting block for the swing arm ,and the other tab has a extra extention bolted on and thats bolted also onto the mounting block.
So maybe it's possible to switch that extention piece to the other side of the muffler tab.
If it's not under tention ,i think there is no problem!

That's how mine is mounted. As long as it's not under tension, it's good to go (that may sound familiar).

Ralph have you looked at your shock?

My shock on the inside has a grind mark.
I'm guessing it was mounted wrong before.

I look at it every time I change oil : )

No problems with contact between the shock and muffler on mine. I would have to say that there was a definite problem with yours before. Apparently, it's not a problem now because you've got a nice little bit of filth going there (not judging, think of it as witness filth) showing there's no contact at all.

Lol! Agreed. I have oil leaking from a rocker arm gasket and also the shifter bushing and the crank seal.
