I just wanted to vent about another issue that I am having with my 99 S3T. I love the bike but the hard bags have a big issue. I had the bags replaced last year b/c they were cracking. Well I have found that they are cracking again.

If I some how can get Buell to replace the bags again then I figure that they will just crack again next year. I am just not sure what to do to reinforce the bags. I am not sure if is a padding thing but I will tell you they are cracking in the same areas.

Does anyone have any ideas how to stop it from cracking and how to reinforce/pad the mount points? It has to be from the vibration b/c I never over load the bags.

Any ideas? Like I said I love the bike and it would be ashame to off load the bike just b/c the bags crack.

Where are they cracking?

Some folks have reinforced different areas to keep them from cracking (or repair cracks). You might want to check the mounts to make sure everything is aligned and unstressed.

Did you get them replace under the original warranty or an extended one? I am trying to get mine replaced but the state they will not cover them under extended warranty.

The extended warranty will not cover ... pretty much everything which is why I didn't get it.
No body parts or touring parts or anything else costly to break.

The fiberglass fixes in the Knowledge Vault work well. I did it on my '00 S3T and haven't had any problems since. I've also started taking them off any time I'm not actuall using them.

Though most of you have more experience with bags cracking on your S3,the 2000 that I just purchased has 24,000 miles on it with original bags.Not a crack anywhere!Now certainly this bike was very well taken care of,and one of the covers was replaced due to a large scratch.But due to the vibration you would think ALL bags would show something!Not so!And the original owner explained why!He told me that the reason a lot of bags crack is because people think the're supposed to be tight!He has kept these just slightly loose and they are perfect!This also seems to work for the leg fairings.They vibrated enough to make noise so I used a couple of rubber washers and that helped.Obviously if yours are already damaged you should follow Al's suggestion to repair but if you ever got new ones its something to consider.

By the way (and look for more on this in the coming week or so) if you DO need Buell S2, S2T, S3 or S3T parts they are READILY (as they ship from Buell within hours, not days) AVAILABLE.

Do not let anyone tell you that any tube frame stuff is obsolete.

How come it took me 3 years to find a stock brake rotor for my S2? No U.S. dealer had one, I found one on ebay!!!

Court, if all this stuff is readily available why did the topeka,KS buell dealer tell me when I wanted a 2001 X-1 stock shifter and linkage it could be anywhere from 2 weeks to who knows? I ended up buying a Banke instead. I wanted to upgrade my 99 to the newer style shifter, topeka wasn't really much help. they wanted me to pay full upfront with no guaranteed delivery date. all they said was at least 2 weeks to 6 months. so much for hours or days availability. I have bought all new or niced parts for my bike from ebay, not any dealer. I live in Wichita, KS and if topeka is the best in the country Buell has a LONG way to go

That was true, they went, it is no longer true.

Wichita, other than Truett and Osborne, is pretty much a "dry county" for motorcycling from my 44 years experience in the area.

I'd stick with Topeka and if Chall and company can't get the part have them CALL BUELL.

MOST (that's a qualified MOST) of the Buell parts complaints are (these days) simply bad information. Twice in the last week, I have been called on to check into getting parts that dealers had told customers were obsolete. In both cases, tons of product (body work and decal sets) were in stock, ready for immediate shipment.

With regard to the brake rotor, I beleive (I'm working from admitedly poor memory here) that the "overlap" rotor on the S2 was upgraded and superceded with a better one. When that happens Buell exhausts existing stock and ships the better unit.

I understand your desire to "keep original" your S-2. I'm sure you understand that most people who order a brake rotor would want the current "best" rotor.

Well actually Court, Big Dog motorcycles are built and serviced in Wichita, Bikers Edge has a fairly large shop, mid continent Harley has a decent size shop, T & O is a small ship these days. There is a contingent of buell owners here that are just as aggravated about as I am. My deal with the shifter was why couldn't these guys have called Buell and gave me a solid delivery date. Every other motorcycle shop I have dealt with was able to. Even the ones in my "dry county". Just no buell dealers thanks to Mike, the owner of Mid continent.
