New S1 owner here with a stupid question.

So I over-tightened one of my bar end CRG mirrors and cracked the mount. The bar ends aren't my fav anyway so I'm thinking about using the original threads to install more traditional mirrors.

Is this the original mounting location under the little black cap? If so is the cap threaded in? Or can I just pry it out?

And I'll need replacements with 10mm threads right?

bar end mirrors give you a better view, cheap ones should be avoided.
that plastic grommet/s pops out with a screw driver then simply screw mirrors in.
the best rear vision is what your looking for not the best looking bike.

Ok thanks, I tried to pry them at first but they were splitting so I stopped. I'll give it another go.

I want stemmed mirrors for better visibility. I have to move my whole head a bit to see the bar ends. Only have to shift my eyes to see mirrors higher up.

Tear up the plugs, they're standard automotive trim "christmas tree" push pins. Usually ten cents at NAPA.

I run 1125CR mirrors on my S1W, and my Ulysses, and my M2. They have a nice stem, and a wider lens so I can see around my shoulders/arms. And they're one hell of a bright set of turn signals!

If you're having a hard time pulling them straight out, get some pliers and try twisting them out. The teeth on the plugs might be catching in the threads and making it harder.

Once they're out, any 10mm threaded mirrors will work. From personal experience, I can tell you that the bar end mirrors are easier to use because you can squeeze the grip tighter momentarily to keep the mirror from vibrating enough for you to actually see things clearly with them. The normal mounted mirrors vibrate like crazy and there's no way to stop them.

All of that aside, I also recently traded in my bar end mirrors for some Ducati streetfighter mirrors, just because they look good, and no real complaints(aside from the mirrors being 8mm but that's easy enough to solve).

Ok, thanks for the comments. I won't sweat the plugs. And I never thought about the vibes issue.

Maybe I'll look at those bar ends that put the mirror out front of the handle bars by a few inches on a stem. Maybe they'll be easier to see than standard bar ends and have less vibes than regular stemmed mirrors.

I know someone said to avoid the cheap bar end mirrors, but honestly I've always bought the cheap $8 ones off of ebay and they've always worked perfectly fine. I once had a mismatched set of a cheap mirror and a crg(or some other similar brand) mirror, and there really wasn't that much difference... anodizing might've been a little nicer and the plastic ball socket was a different plastic, but once they were on and adjusted how you liked them, worked just the same. Just do yourself and get the regular non-folding ones. The folding "Lanesplitter" mirrors just give the mirrors one extra place to move/vibrate/come out of adjustment.

All that aside, like I said I also switched to normal mount mirrors, and they do vibrate, but they're bearable if that's the style of mirror you want.
