I've searched and searched on here. The most I can find in people talking about replacement bulbs for behind the speedo/tach, or people replacing their bulbs with LEDs on XBs. Both turn signal lights on my dash are out. I pulled the bulbs, there's no writing or anything on them... I took one to the auto parts store and see a bulb 37 that looks pretty much identical, I was hesitant because the package said 14V, which I thought was odd as I thought all automobiles ran on 12V(aside from old mopeds and stuff that used 6V)so I didn't buy them, but I see the web page lists them for 12V, but I didn't want to just throw a random bulb in and cause some kind of electrical problems. Can anyone confirm if these bulbs are fine for an S1 dash... not the backlights, just the turn/high beam/oil/neutral lights... http://www.autozone.com/electrical-and-lighting/in strument-panel-light-mini-bulb/sylvania-instrument -panel-light-mini-bulb/964969_24477_18269/?checkfi t=true and if that's not right, does anyone know the right type of bulb so I can search them out online? | ||

68024-94 is what a 1998 S1 parts books specifies for the indicator bulbs. A couple of quick Google searches seem to identify the bulbs as either #70 Wedge bulbs or 2721 bulbs. Looking at dimensions mentioned online, I'd kind of lean towards the 2721 bulbs, but more research should be done to be sure. YMMV, 1313 | ||

14v should be fine. Your battery with the vehicle not running is around 12V, but when a bike or car is running and charging the battery, it is actually at something like 13.8V. It's odd that it was labelled that way, but it is actually more accurate then saying the bulbs are 12V. | ||

Bear in mind that the low fuel light need the same exact type of filament bulb for the circuit to work. | ||

My 1983 Honda Ascot uses the same type bulbs for gauge backlighting and several indicator lights, they don't seem to last more than a year or two, and they're a PITA to change. I've used the bulbs you reference in the original post and they seem to work fine. The ones I used were also marked 14V. | ||

Hughlysses: You mean you've used the #37 bulbs in your buell with no problem? or in the Honda? I don't mind ordering some online, but it'd be nice to be able to just pick some up on my way home. Luckily for me they're very easy to change on the S1, so even if they burn out frequently, I can just pop them out of the back of the dash and swap them. Nate: No gas light, just a reserve switch. It's definitely more of a hassle than the gas light, but no bulb to worry about. Only annoying part is the PO rebuilt the petcock and installed the lever upside down. It's a giant pain to twist the lever with gloves on and the wiring harness in the way. I'll try looking into the 2721 bulbs and Oznium LED. I assume I'll have to find out for sure what type of bulb it is before Oznium could tell me if they have a replacement LED. | ||

I looked on a cross reference website for light bulbs and LEDs under the 2721 bulb, and I see the 37 is listed in the same group. It looks like the two are interchangeable? I ended up grabbing these. I figured I'd give LEDs a try and see how it goes. Hopefully they don't take long to get here. I'll be very interested to know how the LED's hold up. Hopefully they work out. In order to change the bulbs in my Ascot, the gauge cluster has to be disassembled, which has ~10 screws that have to come out, plus the mechanical drives to the tach and the speedometer have to be loosened, plus the bulbs are a PITA to actually remove. If I could install long-life LEDs, it'd be worth the effort & cost. | ||

I was surprised how easy it was to get at the lights on the S1, I've never had bulbs that easy to get to. Unfortunately the Neutral light has been acting goofy since I messed with them, sometimes I have to tap the dash with my finger before the "N" light pops on. I'm guessing maybe it's just loose in the socket. Assuming the LEDs work out, I'll just replace them all at once and hopefully not have to mess with them again. While I was in there I noticed the gaskets around the speedometer and odometer cups are looking pretty rough. I'd like to replace those eventually, but I'm guessing those gaskets are just about impossible to come across at this point. Might have to try making some at some point. | ||

Not directly related, but after a voltage regulator failed on my project 1978 KZ-400, I had to replace the headlight and all the dash lights. One cheap headlight bulb, and 6 cheap gauge bulbs. It cost me 10% of what I paid for the bike (seriously... $35 for a $350 bike). Which made me laugh. | ||

Happy to report, LEDs came in the mail today and they work perfectly. They're SUPER bright. I actually kept having a hard time seeing after I was testing them out in the sockets before I actually plugged everything back into the dash. I ordered a 6 pack which was good because one of them was acting a little goofy. Hopefully they don't need changed again for a long time. They are #74 bulbs, which I think is the most important thing to search for. The title of the listing is "6x Pure White T5 0.5W COB LED Dashboard Indicator Instrument Panel Light Bulb 74". According to the charts I found online, the #37 bulbs I saw at autozone should also be good replacements if you need some on short notice. I was pretty content with the lights behind the gauges, despite being dim, but now that I've replaced these bulbs, I feel like I might make a rainy day out of replacing the backlight bulbs too to brighten up the speedo and tach. Not sure if those are the same bulb or not till I get in there. You can also see my new dash clock that showed up last week. Love it so far. I was beyond tired of riding to work with no clue what time it was. Looks much nicer than yanking the strap off of a wrist watch and velcroing it to the dash like I originally planned.    | ||

When I get a rainy day I'll probably pull apart the gauges and see if they happen to take the same bulb. After seeing how bright these turned out I wouldn't mind replacing all of them. | ||
