Couple weeks ago had to replace the belt. Had the dealer do it. The original belt had the Harley shield. The one I got from the dealer has a orange sportster logo on it. Is there any difference? I read rating was 90hp for sportster belts.. I was considering a belt conversion but I like the low maintenance of a belt. Not sure why the belt looked like this. Tension looked correct. Maybe just old and running it at the track.   | ||

Have a look at the front pulley ,it could have sharp worn teeth. Or what you already though ,it's old and slipped with riding on the track. What i know is that the xb s/r belts are also work on the tube frame buells. | ||

I felt it slipping a bit on the track thought it was the power and the wheel slipping. Mechanic said pullys are ok. I haven't deleted the front pully cover thinking of keeping it on my bike. On the original belt it's all black on the side. New one is like this. At first I thought it was worn on the way home but it's the new design..  | ||

Yeah I heard they lasted for 90,000 miles so this was not something I expected to get replaced anytime soon but it's my current only transportation! Orange County Harley Davidson in CA. $220 belt 1-2 hours labor $350 total. I guess it's similar or less than BMW maintenance. lol! I went to the buell website for dealers that work on buells and only OC and Marina Del Rey still work on them near me. I'm thinking about buying a vmax for my new daily beater. It is shaft drive. This is my first belt drive and I have not owned or ridden a shaft drive bike yet. This bike was never intended to be my daily. You could do this kind of maintenance your self! saves you some $$ so that can be spend on other parts and so you learn to know the bike a bit more. | ||

Didn't want to move the rear wheel and have no Jack for the bike. I don't change tires or chains.. Everything else I will do. If I had a second running bike I might attempt it but time is the thing so just wanted it to get done asap. Yes one of the things that drew me to the x1 is Harleys are fairly simple to work on. Another is I always wanted a ducati m900 but this bike is lower maintenance and share some parts with that bike as well. |
