Hey guys lookin for torque specs for thunderstorm heads. I'm running these heads on a 93 883 motor after problems with the Buells tappet pins.

Did you change the pistons too?

You can't use the heads on an 883 without also using Thunderstorm pistons, thereby making it a 1200. Otherwise, you'd have a compression ratio of 7.5 to 1. Wouldn't run very well, if at all.
Torque instructions vary, I think, depending on what brand of head gaskets you are using. With Cometic gaskets, the torque values are given with the package for the gaskets. Harley's gaskets have different instructions. If you'd clarify that, I can get back to you.

sorry I've taken so long to reply guys! I had a buell motor in my bike when a pin broke allowing the tappet to spin, this flattened the cam which cooked the cam bushings loose from the engine case. I have new buell pistons and had the jugs oversized to match the pistons, I believe the pistons were .030 over?? been awhile but think that's about right. Now the torque specs for a 1200 and 883 I believe are the same but if im correct the bolt sizes for the buell are different which leads me to think that the torques are different. Thanks for the help!

If possible i'd like to get the specs for the whole top half please, I had used the sportys specs for the heads, but would like to cross them with any numbers you have. The rocker bolt sizes seem to be larger on the buell which has me thinking I better measure thrice..

The rocker bolts should all be the same as Sportster. The 1/2" head rocker bolts are 2 different lengths. The tall ones go at the high end and the short ones at the lower end. Mix these up by accident and you are sure to have an oily mess (DAMHIK).

As Eric said, what kind of head gaskets are you using? Torque specs are different for Cometic metal gaskets.

I'm using HD's gaskets, using the complete upper set I believe.
