I've found myself drooling over this bike on craigslist. https://dallas.craigslist.org/dal/mcy/5507059956.h tml My M2 is a great all around bike, but doesn't scream hooligan like an S1 does. I can't really justify having two almost identical bikes though. I've looked into S1 tail conversions, but then I would lose the long range comfort of my M2. I remembered today I had seen pictures of a unmodified M2 with an S1 tail. The frame rails ran below the edge of the tail, and the taillight was sandwiched between the two. If I could do that, and make it so I could easily swap the two, then I could have the comfy bike or hot rod depending on my mood. I can't seem to find those pics though. I want to take a close look before I commit to tracking down an S1 tail and seat. | ||

Yes, that's an S1, but I'm looking for a pic of an S1 tail on an M2 without any frame modifications. I think I found one... I'm not sure if that is a twin tail, or a modified solo. The subframe really sticks out on this one, maybe it wouldn't be so obvious if it was black. | ||

That's an S1 twin tail on the M2. Which makes no sense to me - the original M2 tail is the same narrow width and length as the S1 twin tail. A slightly different angle is the only difference. | ||

The S1 twin tail will not fit onto the M2 without modifications to the subframe. My profile pick is an 00 M2 with an S1 twin tail. the 00 to 02 M2 (and maybe other years) were unchanged in regards to the frame. Like others have stated, unless you have an aftermarket seat, you may not enjoy the stock S1 seat - I think a 2X4 was more comfortable. | ||

You cannot put a stock S1 tail on a stock M2 frame. It is not physically possible. I have done my own M2 to S1 conversion. You will need to cut and re weld steel. The side rails are just too wide and long. There is no simple solution to this You can however use a 1997 M2 tail section which was thinner.  | ||

Hey lookie here, found some of the progress photos.. (sorry for the size but this was done YEARS ago)  Stock M2  Cutting  removed  New loop   all done, just had to add the seat/tail mounting bar | ||

I didn't know there was a difference in frame width. I guess that throws a wrench in the gears. So any suggestions on how to convince the wife I need another motorcycle? | ||

Embrace the subframe but lose the tail plastic. Very hooligan but still comfy for 2 up riding.  | ||

I don't care for the gap left under the passenger seat. If I took that approach, it would have to use a Ducati seat.  | ||

The stock S1 solo seat looks the best IMO. All the others posted look exactly how they are. Cobbled up. It would drive me nuts to have anything but the original on my bike, because to me, the lines of the solo seat are what makes the S1 so damn sexy. | ||

My rear tail section on my m2 broke into four. so made up a alloy welded bracket mounts original plastic number plate bracket & original tail light. my bike has m2L shock have not noticed a big gap i took the carry rack off too my bike all black, i have same seat as railgun looks ok to me i have 100,000k ( 60,000 miles ) up no troubles love riding it. | ||

That is a modified subframe, the M2 doesn't flair up up like that. You can even see the weld in the first photo |
