Friend has reached out for a method to drop the RPMs in 5th gear while cruising the Interstate

a 29 tooth front pulley will still work with the stock 128 tooth belt.

The change to a 29 will drop the final drive ration by app 7%

A 32 Tooth sportster overdrive pulley will reduce the final drive ration by app 15%.

The question is what belt would need to be used for that combination. A 130 tooth Sportster belt?

Input and experiences will be apprciated

32T/61T combination will result in 1.91 reduction.

29T/55T gives a similar ratio at 1.90 and allows use of the stock belt. Another option to consider if you can find a 55T rear pulley, which were stock on many Euro model Tube Frame Buells.

Ran 29T/55T pullies on a T-Stormed S2 and for my taste it was well suited for street and high speed expressway running.

If i lived in US i'd trade my 29-55 for the 27-61, pitty shipping parts from Spain is so expensive.

I already have a 29 tooth front and would love a 55 tooth rear since I use my S3T almost exclusively for long rides.

I don't understand why people always want to drop RPM on the highway. Usually it's because they put a louder exhaust on the bike and they want to avoid the drone. But under 3000 RPM oiling and power is quite poor. It makes more sense to keep the RPMs above 3000 on the highway, so there's actually less load on the bike since it's making more power and torque. And they are built to last there.

Sometimes "highway" means sustained 85-100 MPG for some people.
Ever ride route 40 through north Texas and Oklahoma?
Sometimes reality needs a fast forward button.

It's much like I25 from Collins to Denver. I'm from Amarillo and before that Weatgerford, OK, so I know all about I40 travelling. Even still 4000-4500 RPM is no big deal, and the same argument against implies.

So why did Buell opt for the 29/55T combo on Euro market bikes where higher speeds are often possible?

They did that in Europe due to more stringent noise tests I think.
They had a smaller exhaust pipe diameter too as I recall.

For me it's lowering the rpms a little more and getting better gas mileage. I have 150 mile roundtrip to work, mostly highway, and usually ride at or above 80 so knocking a few rpms off and getting better mileage is a plus.

The 29/55T combination worked well for me. Plenty of torque to handle the lower gears in all riding situations and a nice 5th gear option for high speed highway running.

4k rpm = 100mph.

Almost anyone in Germany changed the final drive
to 27/61.
The German combo 29/55 was only used to pass the noise test,like mentioned before.
Together with the street legal exhaust and that Helmholtz Unicorn,the bike slows down when shifting in 5th gear.
For me,although having the autobahn,it makes no sense to ride the German ratio.The 5th gear becomes useless.

the 29\55 was used in Australia too & most went to 27\61, i would like 26\61 myself ( easier on bottom end roller bearings

My friend rented a 6 speed sport Glide HD fount the 6th gear to drop the rev's a lot. but also found the bike to have a higher top speed in 5th than in 6th. it could not pull the tall gears

Another option is using an Xb12 primary sprocket it will compensate the 27-61 vs 29-55 or close to it should make the gears around 10% Longer.
