American Sport Bike announcing its closure. I was disappointed to see this on their website.

You could see it coming he has been selling off some if his rare buell parts recently an yes we all need parts but its not enough to keep a company running.
Al isxawesome and hopefully he stays around the site as his knowledge is not replaceable!

Yup.... sucks. I just placed a good sized order from him. Wish him the best. Great and friendly guy. Also sad to see Buell Parts closed yesterday also. Although I never purchased anything from them as they were geared more towards XBS
. .. it sucks to have 2 major buell part supply places close up shop. Lucky for us it sounds like Lance will be stepping up to the plate. Not sure how long he will stay in the game but great to have him as a source.

I've been in the Buell business since 95 and plan on staying in it as long as the parts allow. I personally own 3 Buells and 2 of my employees also own them. The owner and the GM of our store support the Buell motorcycles as well. I will continue to source the replacement parts as long as we keep getting the support from all the Buell riders out there. Just last week I received two large skids of replacement Buell parts in to stock and looking at more. If we can help any of you out in any way please feel free to contact us.

Thanks Lance, I own two Buell's and many of the parts on them were from your listings on E-bay. Switch gear, wiring harness, headlight, tail light, front brake, rear brake, brake rotor, wheels front and rear, and on and on. Also Al has been a huge help in my building my S1W, He knows so much about thee machines. Between you two and NRHS, Hammer and a few others this bike is almost all new parts. The support is what makes them fun to own, I worry about when it's gone. Thanks guys for all you do! Also the guys on this forum who use their skills to machine and make parts for us.

Have not met you yet Lance been in a few times but you were not available. I live near Zylstra in Elk River and they also have some Buell guys not the parts but they are goid guys. I will be in this spring wanted to have you check my build out. And for all of you this dealership does not shun the buell at all I was treated great.
If anyone needs something from there I am a hope skip and a ride away!

I have 6 Buells (7?) and American Sport Bike has been there since the beginning for me! Al and JoAnne (sp?) have ALWAYS been great people to deal with and talk to!! Every one of my Buells has a full array of parts from them!

Lance has also been great to deal with and every one of my bikes has NOS parts from him as well!

Al, sure sorry to see you go!!

Lance, thanks for carrying the torch!!

Sad to hear about American Sport Bike. In my HD Days I got a LOT of HD stuff via eBay from SPHD. I liked them so much ( and was so pissed off at HD for the lawsuit ) That when the fam went on a vacay to Wisc we swung by SPHD for shirts. Amber (?) was a sweetie putting up with us tourists. Thx Al and Lance for all you do for this community

Thanks for the good words, folks.

It's going to take at least few months to move some of our more esoteric inventory items, and we're not in any particular hurry. We're still going to be carrying the normal stuff that everyone needs until it's finally time to pull the plug. So we'll be here for a while yet.

And Joanne and I will still be hanging here on BWB for a long time, we're not going away and I'm still keeping a couple Buells.

We did, however, follow Dave's (Jolly) lead and get a Moto Guzzi for Joanne. Dave has a couple MGs that we've talked about a few times, and they seem like the Italian Buell to me...air cooled, pushrod, kinda lumpy twins with loads of character and just enough power. There's a saying that goes something like "Moto Guzzi, going out of business since 1921." It's a somehow encouraging thought if you apply it to Buell.

4. A 2015 Griso. Here's a picture of her with her new baby:

griso

She was riding the shop XB9S show bike, but it wasn't a great bike for her needs. We need to be able to carry stuff, and the XB9S just doesn't have a lot of space to strap stuff to. Plus, it's very light and quick steering, and she isn't a knee dragger by any stretch. When you strap weight up high on it, it is a bit too top heavy and twitchy to be comfy sport touring bike for her.

But the Griso has a much longer wheel base (61" vs 52" on the XB) and carries its not unsubstantial weight lower. It's not as good a sport bike, but carves corners quite well if you don't try to ride it like a ninja. There's lots more space to strap stuff to than the XB has. It has loads of torque, it's a very easy bike to ride and feels somewhat Buell like in many ways.

The torque reaction to throttle application off-idle takes a bit of getting used to, and the turn signal and horn buttons are swapped relative to Buells so we're both perpetually beeping the horn on it.

We looked at the V7 models, which are quite a bit lighter. But they are kinda cheaply built with lots of corner cut for economy, and they're WAY down on power (like 45RWHP or less). They were just too much of a backwards step for her.

This is going to sound weird but this morning I had a dream about visiting American Sport Bike and meeting Al in person.

I happened to be "in the area", noticed the storefront (though I'm assuming there's never been a store on a local mainstreet). I stopped by, said hi, and asked about getting stocked up on a few parts before things closed down.

Guess I'd better put a final order in before it's too late...?

I've had a few Guzzi's over the years, still have an '02 LeMans. Often thought the mindset that appreciates a Buell would also enjoy a Guzzi...

Al, thanks for the support over the years!

Al thank's, look's good! we see MG's here in Australia.
I like them but only have ridden a two valve model's not a new 4 valve. the one i road i could notice a side to side hard to explain, but think something to do with crank turning east west not north south, but that feeling was at low speed, open it and goes away.
are they reliable? like Italian Electric's ?? also not sure if that one has linked brakes? i was not a fan of the fact they have the front & rear brake linked via foot brake, but can use front only with the bar. i like to have rear brake only or front brake only myself. but i like the style & they stay looking good beautiful finish build quality from what i saw. the old 850 Le mans from the 70's 80's was a good handling bike!
I like the spoke wheels!!
what model's did you look at?
