Bike was not ran for 3 years, cleaned carb and changed oil and removed tank and cleaned, NW BATT.(bike was stored with no gas in tank Very clean system) started and allowed to warm up went for short ride, ran good for 2 miles then stated stalling loss of power and quit. Tried to restart with huge back fire out exhaust pipe. pushed home. started 1 time low ideal now only huge back fires out exhaust. what way to go, what to test. bike acts out of time. Checked carb, looks good, no issues. | ||

Ito me it sounds like it leaned out on you. I would check the intake seals and check the Jets and make sure crap didn't brake loose and plug up the jets. Check your fuel flow and make sure your fuel valve didn't cave in and plug up the fuel flow. | ||

Thanks for your time and input. I have checked fuel, and removed the carb. the jets are clean, I did blow through it with air then carb cleaner put back together. fuel does not seem to be the problem. it acts as if its out of time and firing on an open exhaust valve. it will not start at all only backfires. | ||

Does it have compression? Did you check your intake seals? In the past we've seen the seals get sucked into the intake to the a bad run of short intake manifold back around that time frame. | ||

Compression is good, intake seals good. only thing it will do is pop out the exhaust, and that's not often. removed plugs and spun it over plugs are firing nice hot blue spark. Maybe the ignition system was damaged from sitting so long with out running. I did notice some small cracks on the seal on the back side of the box.(module) | ||

Is it popping out the exhaust after you let off the starter button or during the cranking of the motor? | ||

Check your voltage at the coil during cranking, a couple of us around here have found the older the bikes get you tend to get a bigger voltage drop at the coil during cranking. It can get so low that the ignition won't fire until after the starter in done. I had to clean all my connectors to get it to quite doing that. The old connector are now sealed and will get corrosion on them reducing the voltage. | ||

I would have to say yes, pops after, 99% sure of it. Im offshore at work so Im gathering info to fight this demon when I get home. I recall checking the volts and it was 12.79 then at crank went to 9.7 or so. that was with a good hot battery. Let me get this stupid question off my mind.... is there anyway the system got out of time? I was running about 50 mph and it just got weak then died in about 100 yards. Again this bike sat 3 plus years in my shop. the Screaming eagle 8000 rpm box does have some cracking on the soft sealant on the back of it. | ||

With the crack and leaking the sealant I would replace it, if it's not it will be soon. I would look at the twin tec modules, we have good lock with them and you can adjust it to your needs. | ||

Agree with you on that, not sure if that's the problem but with the cracks it will not be long before it does give me problems if it is not now. want this thing right for this coming spring, so will go through any possible failing items. thanks for all the info so far. | ||

Check plugs and plug wires, also my S-2 lost fire on one cyl when the circuit breaker was going bad, | ||

Thanks Firemanjim, I did check these items. Im ordering a new ignition module 32402-83/920402 and AMS sensor 3240094-A I think these items are old and the sealant is failing. Even if this is not it, it sure can not hurt. | ||

Im just full of questions, who do you guys buy Ignition parts from ? I just spent 4 hours looking online and had no luck. | ||

I would use a Daytona Twin Tec ignition module, You can adjust them to fit your needs. If you go this route the model number is 1006 7 pin. We had goo look with all these product over the years. they retail for about $330.00 and with their coil your can do single fire or dual fire with your stock coil. http://www.daytona-twintec.com/model_1006.html} | ||

OK it was the mag pick-up, changed it out and she came back to life. thanks for all the input. spring is around the corner. |
