Does the 98 S3 and S1W share the exact same exhaust system? I have an S1W I'm trying to restore and have found the muffler for an S3. Just need to be sure they are indeed the same. Buell tube frame parts are sooo much more expensive than they were a few yrs ago when I was restoring a 97 M2.

is it any S3? i was under the impression only the S3T shared the 2.5" pipe w/ the S1W, and that the S3 and S1 still had 2" pipe?

Any 1998 S3 that was built for the DOM (Domestic) market had the 2.5" exhaust. IIRC, HDI bikes got 2" exhaust.

That's been my exclamation since I've been trying to restore my 1998 S3T Defender. A few years before I had it, tube frame parts were all over the place and available for pennies on the dollar (kind of), but now there's a feeding frenzy when something becomes available.

Good job finding the muffler - I found out over the weekend that mine could probably use a replacement. My header is deemed for replacement as well as someone had polished it at one time and I want OE appearance.

When will we see the day that someone buys one of those insanely cheap tubers as a donor bike for a restoration project?

I'm not sure which years models had what sizes, but as mentioned above, there are 2" and a 2.5" header versions. We have sold a few of the Torque Hammer systems in the past. Twin also sells replacement headers for Tubers. They're not listed on our site, but we can sell them. Ask us for a quote if interested. The mufflers are in our site and are priced shipped in CONUS. Let us know if we can help.
