Chain?

Over 33k miles (53,000+ kms) on the above pictured S1 using the clean, quiet, maintenance free original equipment belt.

Why spoil a good thing?

And that is a good thing, except when they pop in the middle of BF Egypt

Not to sound like a jerk, but when was the last time you were out of cell phone range????
WHen was the last time you looked up from a ride and said"where the hell am i"
Guess what, if the belt breaks, call a tow truck, or you HOG tow pack, if they cant do it, get someone local and gety repaid by HOG
In 20 years of ridding, i can say that there was only one time when i had no idea of where i was at, happened this year, and even then i know i was headed in the right direction, just had no idea of where other than on the road i had decided on
Bill its time you took a long ride, and didnt worry if your bike is going to brake, if it does uses your cell phone, if it dosent, dont worry about it, and if you cant handle it, get a chain kit from Baker, and carry extra links
Maybe you wont worry so much than
R

Hey Roger,

I didn't see ya at the Crud Run this year? We all met up again at Don's Oasis in Freeport but no bikes went down in our group of 11 this time.

I've seen some gears with the splines ripped off by the primary belt drives on some really big-inch HD drag motors...belts are tough!!

and clean!!!

I killed a chain in 5,000 miles...it was a high end x-ring type. Oh well, at least it didn't break!

Rick a, please elaborate on how you destroyed it. I run a chain and need to upgrade. Thanks much, Bob

Full throttle off every stoplight or turn, everywhere...routine use of engine braking.

Rick,

I frequently lift the front wheel taking off and like I posted above 23000km on the chain. I keep it cleaned and properly lubricated.

It was a good quality O-Ring Chain with decent sprockets.

Was the rear wheel lined up properly with the front sprocket? That can cause uneven pre-mature wear.

I broke a belt at 12,600 miles. I don't expect a chain to last nearly as long...I'd just don't like being left stranded!
