Is there anything like a mark or magnet it something on the 5th gear that the speedometer sensor reads, or does it not need anything? I ask because I have a set of '96 S2 cases that have the boss in the casting where the sensor goes, but is not drilled for one. This is because Sportsters went to electronic speedos in 95 IIRC, but Buell did not until 99 . I'm planning to use an electronic speedo from a '99 X1, but I want to make sure it will work after I drill the cases and plug one in lol.

I thought all tubers used a speedo cable from the front hub.

What i know is that all the tuber cases have that boss but only the injection engines have it drilled for a sensor.
And the sensor is reading the teeth of the gear.

Tell me, how many of your X1's have a speedo cable driven off the front hub?

My 2000 M2 read the speed off a hall effect sensor in the engine cases that read the teeth of a transmission gear as they passed by.

The seating depth of that sensor may be fussy in order to trigger when the tooth is there, but not trigger between teeth. Too close and it will just be on all the time. Too far and it will never come on.

The depth is easy; the hold down sits flush on the cases, so I just have to drill the through hole in the right area and the blind hole next to it and thread that one. I have a few sets of cases here to look at, but none of them except mine have the transmission out.

Brankin... Maybe I'll know more when I change the tires. Three sets ready to go
