Kickstand switch sounds like a possible culprit – these are known to go bad. The search function can help you find some how-to's for troubleshooting.

You just snip the wires at the kickstand switch, solder them together and cover the exposed wire with shrink wrap.
I've had to do that at night in somebody's driveway on the way home from work. No solder or shrink wrap on me, though!

Can ir be turned off with the ecm-spy. Rather than cut the cables?

Thanks for all the replies.

Removed the sensor and joined the cables, problem solved, now waiting for a decrease of temperatures to be able to have a nice ride, i'm so happy to have sold the Ulysses and get back to the X1 (ha done but long story how the engine died) for got how this bike make a bigger smile than any xb.

Thanks again.

Not yet again moré problems go to ride starts nice first gear ok sudenly all the power shuts off, fuel pump not running, the clocks light up the oil light comes on, but nothing more, not even the lights of the bike come on, the ecmspy cant get acces to the ecm, all fuses seem to be fine, did i buy a box of problems?
It's frustrating trying to ride and in less that 100 metres this happens.

Sounds like something is loose or grounding somewhere... I don't know electrical well enough to suggest a specific place to look. However, I would start by checking/tightening battery terminal contacts, grounds, and then look for loose connectors or places the wire harness may have rubbed through and touched the frame. You may want to triple check the fuses too. Good luck!

Are your battery cables tight and corrosion free at both ends? Something is passing current for a while and then stopping. Perhaps the fuse block has a crack.

Check the wiring junction block near the oil tank and the ribbon ground connectors at front of the swing arm. Visual inspection is not always conclusive so you better remove and clean the connections. It's probably something real simple. You can switch the relays and see if that helps.

Or you could have a bad ignition key switch. Jiggle the key and see if anything changes, and wiggle the wires at the back of the switch.

You bypass the switch by taking its connector apart and bridging all three terminals inside together.

Good call on the ignition switch. A good sign of a marginal switch is the housing and the red wire get abnormally hot to the touch. If none of these simple and obvious (to the eye) areas fix the issue, you may need to lift the gas tank and have a look at all the wire looms that are bunched up under there. One of the first things I did was to reroute some of those looms/connectors to relieve the stress and minimize the likelihood of wires rubbing against hard objects. It's a real mess in there...

I did the bridge of the ignition pins and dashboard lights up and the oil light also comes on, no fuel pump nor head lamp give a y signals of life, i changed all the fuses, i will carry on working around, i'm sure it's something simple, but where is the question. That's way: Buell converting riders in to mechanics since 1983.

Isn't that the Bultaco/Moto Guzi motto?

I had a similar issue on my S3 a few years back. It turned out to be the big red wire from the voltage regulator. There is a bullet connector near the starter that can come undone. When it disconnects, the engine loses power but the taillight still has juice.

Is your ECM module in the stock location and free of cracks? If you convert to Sportster ignition, you lose your fuel injection but gain reliability. It means putting a petcock in the gas tank and getting a carburetor, but these are minor alterations.

Unplug and clean all of your fuses and relays in your fusebox. It looks nice and dry in there but the underside of the box where the connectors are is exposed and they get corroded.
Be sure to give each a little spritz of WD40 to slow the corrosion.

Found ti it was a ground point on the left side under the tank, seem It was corroded and under stress, so vibration made it break, now i made the cable longer and now it's bolted to the battery, hope this is the last of me worries.

Thanks for al the help.

I cant find the words my cheeks are in pain of so much smiling, forgot the great power this machines has, i laugh a the ulysses i had, this is far better.

Just need to wear out the tyres and change to the PM rims and the better front disk.

It seeps some oil, but that is no major issue, will get it sorted out in a later stage, i need more riding to get used to it, but so far i'm impressed.

The hoses between the shock and the oil tank are easy to change: they rub and eventually leak. Remember how old the bike is.

The oil mark show on the tail between the 2 holes that hold it to the frame, i just guess it's a sweating from the cylindre head gasket, just need to clean the area, to see if it comes from there.

How do you clean the bikes? on the Uly i used a degreaser that was not agressive then i would use tap water to wash it off, never went above the seat level always under.

what is the best way to clean this X1?

Thanks.

I occasionally use a product called S100. Spray, light brush, rinse, and air pressure dry. Repeat as needed. Always on cool or just barely warm engine.
