2002 X1W 10K 99% stock bike

Started bike in garage first time since we bought it from local Bad Webber.

Neutral Lights was on and glowing green. Bike took a few minutes to warm up, but all is well.

Bypassed the Clutch safety switch, bike starts and runs like before.

But no Neutral Indicator?

Bypassed switch by making jumper for black plastic connector that plugs into switch on Clutch Perch.

Ran Shifter through pattern, back into Neutral, bikes starts and runs, just no Green Indicator Like.

Bulb go bad?

Gibbs Rule # 39 seems to apple here.

Thanks

The same darn thing happened to my 96S1 the day before yesterday. I thought about it off and on and today I decided to wiggle the wiring loom leading up to the dash lights.
the bulb went back on! bad connection or bad bulb, we'll see. A few years ago with 70,000+- the neutral safety switch under the transmission output just above and ahead of the pulley (?) got replaced. I have 105K+ on the clock.

Actually, fairly easy.

Loosen the right side of the chin fairing, and remove the front pulley cover. Unplug the wire to the neutral switch. Using whatever method you prefer, turn the ign on, and ground the neutral switch wire to the ground of choice. If the light comes on, the bulb is good.

Since you are in there, with the bike in neutral, check that you have continuity from the wire connector at the neutral switch to ground. If no continuity, the switch is bad.

Hope this helps, Dave

I should have said, pushing the connector in and wiggling the wires. the bulbs are real small 'capsule' bulbs.

Do the bulbs come out from the bottom or the top?

Lol

My neutral indicator went out on my new to me X1 - there's a star gear (sorry I don't know the partnumber or better name) inside the transmission cover on the left side, with a clip that holds it in place that has a reputation for breaking.

That took care of things for me...

My neutral light stopped working a while back. I did the switch test as described in the manual (getting the indicator light to come on by bypassing the switch, I believe).

In retrospect, I suspect my neutral switch had come a bit lose (unscrewed part way). I had already picked up a new switch by the time I got my front pulley off, so I popped the new one in and it worked great.
